goof! morning, irid yodnrion 'M A LITTLE LATE TODAY. but l'm not going to be too hard on myself. I met Fanny Desimone in the lobby downstairs. She was taking her sixth graders on our N. B. C. tour. l was glad l had those extra tickets for the Train Your Brain show. The children were thrilled at the prospect of seeing a radio broadcast and when l told Fanny that Dr. Courtney. the quizmaster of Train Your Brain is our own Catherine, she was more excited than were her charges. Catherine is the idol of every educator in the country. Her success has been really phenomenal.- a steady rise since the publica- tion of her doctoris thesis. lShe was twenty-three when it was published l. l did not have all the news. Fanny told me that her sister. Terry. left for Alaska last week. She has agreed to be resident physician at lviley Post. that new community in Alaska organized by and named for Patricia Wiley. Her Community Service Plan. l hear, has been tremendously successful. Josephine Curry is going to experiment with it in the French Vllest lndies as soon as Sheila Duggan can fly her to an outpost. Sheila has promised to schedule the flight before her proposed trip to the moon in the Duggan Dart. Dorothy Stantonis discussion of it in last monthls Popular Science made America conscious of it and the lunar project. Patricia Burke. who has become the most popular lecturer on science on campusses throughout the country. recently called the Duggan Dart the greatest thing since aluminum knitting needles. Fanny and l could have talked for hours. but sixth graders will not wait for hours and l do have my obligations to N. B. C.'s advertising department. lve are going to pick up our conversation at the next alumnae meeting. lt will be definitely scheduled when Maria Stack. President of the association. finishes her work at the National Medical Association Convention and returns East. Maria is one of the women in medicine today. Her time is at a premium. And right now mine is too. . l had better hurry and check these memos my secretary left for me. Wonflerftil girl, my secretary. She is a Reilly graduate and one who lives up to that famous slogan, Be Really Glad with a Reilly Grad! ,loan Clark was telling me that if she could satisfy the calls for Reilly trained girls. a fortune would be made. She has a mighty fine start with Clark Employment Agencies in New York. Chicago, St. Louis, and Los Angeles. l shall have to do my best without my girl Friday today. She has gone over to the Business Machines Exposition in the main ballroom of the Paar Building. right next to Grand Central. Virginia owns New York's newest skyscraper outright. Her chance-buying habit which she acquired in college paid off three years ago when she won the Irish sweepstakes. Mary Cc-han., or Mrs. Wall Street-. as she is called by thc nation's journalists, handled Virginia's winnings for her. Mary Zweifel is the official hostess at the Paar 110

Cl,l eLU2 The whispering pines sigh gently, g'Farewell. farewell, farewell To you, Oh Class of VH. The breezy chorus swells As ivy, oak, and maple, And sweet lnagnolias, too, Join the voices murm'ring a'Farewell, good luck to you. As step by step you grew We watched you from aboveg We rejoiced with you and sighed with you, And showered you with love. But now, dear girls, you leave us No more our paths to trodg But the echoes of your footsteps Will resound forever more As you journey onward Leading souls to God. Now 'neath our boughs we hear 'GOI1 stately pines, farewellf, you sing, DoRorHY STANTON

Building from nine to two-nineteen. I asked my secretary to say hello to Mary for me, but I am almost sure she will forget my message when she sees the exhibit. They are featuring the latest Dugganite. This is Laura's fifth brainchild. She has made a startling contribution to the business field every year since 1947 when she turned the trick with a 'Lwritcrtypef' the typewriter that automatically spells everything back- wards. It revolutionized radio advertising and, of course, procured terrific sales promo- tion when it was announced that a complimentary writertype went with every Stude- baker. This time Laura has outdone herself for speedy production. lt has America,s biggest magnates wondering about the magic scissors that cut the red tape for the Dugganites. It is not such a mystery when you realize that Janet Duffy has become really influen- tial in Wasllington circles. She is there as voluntary representative of the North Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce. Janet dropped everything including her executive position with United Airlines eight months ago. Since then she has been lobbying against the proposal to merge North Tarrytown and Tarrytown. She has touched many American hearts with her appeals for the safeguarding of North Tarrytown's sacred individuality . Clare Bender has given her whole-hearted support to ,lanetis work. Although Clare has become a national figure as president of the American Federa- tion of Womenis Clubs, she continued to be interested in Westchester. She proved that last fall during the Yonkers mayoralty race. lean Murphy's election was no accident. Clare's management of the campaign was superlative. Since her election, ,lean has intro- duced legislation to make the installation of the Farrell cushion compulsory in all vehi- cles of the Yonkers-Wllite Plains Bus Lines. Constance Farrellis product is a combination of helium, steam, and nylon according to the Madison formula. Eileen introduced this formula in her first book, Life Can Be Beautiful or You, Too, Can Pass Geometry. Eileen will be the guest member of our lit- erary round table broadcast at three o'clock when her latest book, How to Win Friends and Square Roots, will be discussed. If I want to make the broadcast, I had better take care of these memos. Let's see now. First things first. My subscription to the Bronx Home News has to be renewed. Lucille Suglia is doing such fine work writing for its womanls page, I hate to miss a single issue. I especially like her interviews of leading daughters of the Bronx. Patricia O'Connor, N.B.C.'s Singing Lady , is to be next Tuesday's subject. Her daily program has achieved even greater popularity with children from coast to coast since the release of her new album by the La Barbera Record Company. Sara, so celebrated some years ago as with the atomic touch is now concentrating on directing her new company. She is making one of her rare personal appearances next month at Carnegie Hall for the benefit of the Schneider Foundation, which seems destined to become the 111
