The class began The school year by sponsoring The TirsT noon dance, which was a large success. The Eyeball Dance drew The largesT dance crowd This year. Many oT The Sophomore boys earned Their blocks during The TooTball, baskeTball, baseball and Track seasons. Several oT The girls also received Their blocks. During The lnTramural BaslceTball TournamenT, boTh Sophomore boys and girls won The championship. The class had a Tew ouTsTanding members who parTicipaTed in several sTudenT body acTiviTies. Joan l-look was assisTanT yell leader This year, while James Kosinski made C.C.A.L. in baskeTball. PaTsy Pura and La Vella Dionne were maioreTTes and Joan SToclcdale was our candidaTe Tor TiTle oT Queen oT The Barn Dance. Jesse Palacio, R. B. Greene, ETren Gallardo, RoberT Vasquez, and Gary STubbleTield received Their sTripes. ln OcTober we gave The Freshman Class Their parTy which was enioyed by boTh classes. For enTerTainmenT we had games and dancing. Cup cakes and colces were served laTer. Under money raising aclivilies lhe class gave a cake sale early in lhe year. They also had charge ol lhe lood concessions al lhe loolball games where lhey sold candy. soda. hol-dogs, and collee. ln November lhey slaged a sock hop which proved lo be one ol lhe mosl successlul dances in years. A noon dance was held and also a dance aller lhe Pacilic Grove game. The Junior Talenl Show and also lhe Junior Play Sevenleenlh Summer were bolh very well allended and enioyed by all. 'lhe annual Junior Carnival proved lo be prosperous also. The high-lighl ol lhe year was lhe Junior-Senior Banguel held al Loma Linda. The Juniors were well represenled in bolh lhe boys' and girls' block Cn Evelyn McCabe was voled head yell leader and Sally Cowan as an assislanl. In lhe sporls calegory, we were proud ol Tommy Gay, Johnny Pedevilla, and many olher Frosh boys who played loolball on lhe Junior Varsily squad under Mr. Gulierrez. lvlany ol lhe boys won lheir blocks. In baslcelball, Bill lvlaclclin did himsell proud by play' ing on lhe Varsily squad. Our boys on lhe Junior Varsliy were Roberl Celaya, Sammy Burns, Rudy Yniquez and olhers. The J. V.'s did very well, hardly losing a game. We remember inilialion and our parly given by lhe Sophomores. For inilialion, all Freshman girls had lo wear eighl piglails each lied wilh a green ribbon and no malceup, The boys had lo roll lheir panls up lo lhe knees, parl lheir hair in lhe middle and adorn il wilh bows. We were cerlainly a sighll Al the parly, lhe Freshmen had lo do dillerenl slunls such as proposing lo each olher: lhen relreshmenls were served. The class senl Sondra Gronningon, Roberl Celaya, and Carolyn Murray lo Honor Band and Ann Lopes lo lhe l-lonor Orcheslra. Irma Depralli, Delores Caprara. Ann Lopes, Sondra Gronningen, and lvlelva Grihin were eligible and became members ol lhe Honor Sociely.
