JUIIIUR CLIISS The beginning of the third Epic in the annals of the Class of '51 shows the luniors assuming the dignified role of upperclassmen and preparing for a busy, hardworking year. Under the leadership of the able officers- -Ophelia Gonzales, president: loy Gilchrist, vice-presi- denty Betty Lou Sale, secretaryy Virginia Simpson, treasurer: Marie filorentin, sergeant-at-arms, and lohnny Daoro, athletic manager, together with the wise counseling of their advisors, Mr. Hines and Miss Rodgers, the luniors embarked upon their new financial responsibility of raising money to properly entertain the noble Seniors and prepare for their own Senior Class expenses. Being a wide awake class, the lunior Class rings were selected and ordered soon after school opened, which resulted in their being deliv- ered in November right after Thanksgiving vacation with a long year to enjoy them. Financial enterprises carried out during the year were the selling of hot dogsy cokes and hot coffee at all the home football gamesy sale of cokes and candy at all basketball games. They also put on a movie, The Shocking Miss Pilgrim, which was enjoyed by the school and paid well. They also gave a dance following one of the basketball games. ln March the lunior Play was successfully presented and proved a financial success. The lunior Carnival in April further helped to swell the lunior fund. The lunior Class was proud to supply many good athletes on the football, basketball, track and baseball teams, with l4 boys earning their blocks this year. The Class is especially proud of lohn Daoro for making the all-C.C.A.L. Lightweight team. The luniors also showed an interest in music, having ll members in the Band, Chorus and Dance- band. One member was in the f-lonor Society. On May 3 the lunior Class entertained the Seniors and faculty with the long anticipated lunior-Senior banquet. This was an especially gala event this year held at Loma Linda. The Class of '5l is looking forward to being Seniors next year and hope to make it the most successful and worthwhile year of High School.
