The Editor's Footnotes. . . Saturday, June 12 1966 Dear Bulldogs, Today, as we complete the l966 SPIRES a few questions appear in my mind. I-lave we met the challenge that we so eagerly accepted one year ago? Have we interpreted student opinion, desires, expectations and actions correctly? We have gone through the last year and the thou- sand and one tasks that make up a yearbook with you, the student, at the top of our list. As you read this book again and again, please keep in mind that we have made every effort to serve you., yet the real Thank You must be from us to you. lt was you the student who creat- ed a need for an annual and it was also you that made it financially, possible. With this vote of confidence it enabled us to improve and make the changes you see herein. We hope you will agree that it is a progressive change. First must come a thank you to the fellow staff members that worked so faithfully with me. As assistant editor, Eleanor Britschgi took care of the annoying, time consuming details that are often overlooked. Mike Masterson, serving in the capacity of sports editor was always available to work the graveyard shift. It was his ability that gave us such an outstanding sports section. Sherry Paulsen, Janice Wells, Gail Patterson, Jim Galluzzo, Ann Manorgan, Linda Coupez, Michelle Doyle, Marilyn Potter, Mike Halligan, Georgene Arneson and Cheri Goold did an out- standing job in their special areas. An editor is fortunate when he can work with people of such high caliber. Three photographers are deserving of special attention. John Hough served as our excellent darkroom technician. Pat Reed and Dick Thwaites made that extra effort that is needed for out- standing picture quality. Thanks are due of these men for giving much more than we expected. To the R. Wallace Pischel Company of Pasco, we owe a special thanks. It has been their efforts and craftmanship that have given this publication status. To Bob Pischel we give a heart- felt thank youg he always gave us more than we asked for and we asked for a great cleal. To Dale Quincy of Spokane that served as our yearbook representative, we say thanks very much. lt was his ability as general counsellor and humorist that helped us on when times were rough. Today, as the i966 yearbook comes to a close and the last ofthe years memories-are recorded, the editor heaves a sigh of relief and looks forward to revealing the finished product. l-le knOWS that this book of memories will be more to you than just a record of the year's events and ac- tivities. lt represents many hours of work and organization. Also, he recognized that it is the fruition of efforts of many individuals not familiar to our campus, it represents the very special help of many people and especially the help of a grand staff, all working together, photograph- ing, cutting, writing and editing. This past year has been a wonderful experience-one that can be acquired in no other way. Although at times, l wondered if the work would ever cease, I still would not trade the ex- perience gained for anything. Your editor, I Mike Cohen
