A tan Chevy, a cigar billowing into the wind, a well-groomed black- haired priest vanishing down Euclid. Each day this is the scene. Who is he? Where is he going? Gonzaga Prep's benefactors all know. His name is breathed with love from their hearts. He's part of their lives. He is a priest. He is Father John. At school Father John Hurley is the treasurer--the stern figure at the pay window seeking tuition. On the road he is Father Gonzaga. He begs, he cajoles, he pleads, he cries with those who cry, he persuades, he sells, he laughs--all for the boys who go to Gonzaga Prep and for the fathers, scholastics, and brothers who stay behind to staff the school. They are engrained into his heart. Father John has won hundreds to donate to Prep. He has traveled many miles, suffered many No's , counseled many broken hearts, and he has gained for Prep a following enjoyed by no other school. His program is person to person: the Gonzaga Prep Associates and Fellows. These people pay for what your tuition cannot pay. They believe in him and in you. Their partnership with the school and with your education is due to one man alone: Father John. In mud, sleet, snow, fog, wind and sun he is out each day in search of new Associates and Fellows. Father John is a Jesuit priest. His job is not easy. Often separated from his fellow priests, seldom seen by the students, scorned by the selfish who find his begging an intrusion, he is Gonzaga Prep's first citizen more than any other priest. Without him .... ? Well, let's not think about that, for God has sent him to us. He could become hard, dealing always with debts, unpaid accounts, and cold figures of money. He could become discouraged, and no doubt he does have dark moments. But his cheerful face, his priest- ly zeal, his humble, self-effacing dedication to Gonzaga Prep, his constancy, courage, and Christ-likeness move us to dedicate this year's LUIGIAN to him. God bless you, Father John--and thanks.

The leadership and spirit of this year's SENIORS has been exceptional. They have been taught Well, and urged to think for themselves. Their originalty and imagination has added much to Gon- zaga's spirit. The A of TISHSWCLPTAT- POI, The Association of Those In Senior High School Who Carry Lunch Pails To Avoid The Pitfalls Of Insecurity, is no exception.
