PRINCIPAL'S M ESSAGE FR. RICHARD O'DAY, S.J. Over four hundred years ago, St. Ignatius instructed his Jesuit followers ever to seek the greater and longer lasting good 'for God's glory. Since that time, Jesuits have determined that good to be two things: The missions and the education of youth. They have been convinced of this for four hundred years and they maintain that same conviction today. Many other important and great works are undertaken by the Society of Jesus, but still the Jesuits feel that even now the missions and the schools are their most important works. A The importance of the missions is obviousg the importance of schools, not so obviousg for here the results are neither evident nor are they dramatic. Only years later do the seeds of Catholic education flower and blossom into a devout family life and a Christian-civic leadership. Ephemeral academic or athletic success is not the aimg nor is it the justification of the Jesuit system. The success or failure of your education will only appear in the future. That future begins the day you leave Gonzage Prep and concludes with the end of your lives. May God grant that what you have been given here will prove durable, durable enough that you may seek His greater glory in all places, at all times, in all things. 7
