After a good start, the Bullpups dropped two games in a row, one to Lewis and Clark, and one to North Central. Both were nip and tuck battles, lost in the closing innings through errors and unlucky breaks. In their latest game, as this goes to press, the boys showed a great deal of improvement, trouncing Hillyard 9 to 2. With two games won and two lost, the team now has a good chance to finish well up in the league. In the opening game, April the fourteenth, the Bullpups defeated North Central 9-8. Lewis and Clark defeated Gonzaga in the second game, April the twenty-third, 15-14. North Central evened up the series by defeating the Bullpups 3-2, in the eleventh inning, on April the twenty-eighth. The game was closely contested, and soon settled dow.n to a pitcher's battle, with Anderson of North Central, and Daschbach of Gonzaga twirling fine ball. Ander- son struck out eleven men, while Daschbach turned back sixteen batters. May day, Gonzaga gave Hillyard a 9-3 beating at Harmon field. Matt McDonald, a prom- ising left-hander, did the pitching for the Bullpups, allowing but seven scattered hits, fanning twelve men. The Gonzaga infield played its best game of the year, making only two errors, and those on difficult plays. i601

The prospects were not of the best: two lettermen and a few veterans beginning the season. When Mr. Carl Kligel, mentor, issued a call for recruits, real Gonzaga spirit showed in those who answered. Although the first two meets were lost to North Central and Lewis and Clark, much new material was uncovered. Then, a smashing victory was won over the best the Spo- kane Valley schools could offer. This squad, therefore, causes Mr. Kligel to look forward to a triumphant season next spring. In the dashes Joe Sweeny and Harry Lake showed well, supported by Morrio Donato, Bill McBreen, and John Richards, Sweeny, Flaherty, and Dick O'Br'ien won points in the hurdles, while R. McBreen showed well in the 440, broad jump, and javelin. Buchanan and Royce in the mile, Yoder, McCarry, Codd, and Krueger in the 880 are promising men. Warre.n Thorpe, Gorman, and Albi represented us in the high jump and pole vault. Flaherty, Molitor, and Kearns turned in good marks in the weight events and broad jump. l62l
