The Senior Medal was awarded to Joseph Lavin, while John Hurley and Fred Harrison won second and third places, respectively. In the Junior division, James Codd was awarded the medal. In speaking on the Constitution of the United States, they have shown some of their training as future citi- zens, as well as a high degree of oratorical ability. The winner, William Codd, placed first in the city, county, and state contests. In the state contest, he was chosen as state representative to compete in the Pacific Coast finals. i431

Independence in the case of the Philippines, was the bone of contention over which the Senior division debated. Natural rights, moral duties on the part of the United States, and the ability of the islands to protect themselves, were arguments thrown at each other's heads in this verbal battle. l45l
