Weekly debates on questions of national as well as local appeal were informative and interest- ing. Consistent practice has produced speakers of no mean ability. Many of these students had never before spoken in public, and now bid fair to hold their own with the more experienced upper-class men. As usual, the debating year was climaxed with the annual Gold Medal Debate. Six speakers were chosen to settle the question: Resolved, that two years of Latin should be compulsory in all secondary schools. James Codd, Leo Sebastian. and Kruezer, were chosen to uphold the affirmative, while Arthur Boehning, Edward Krieg, and Hugh Milgard will defend the negative. The Gold Medal winner is not known as the Luigian goes to pressg yet, Vincat optimus vir. i421
