We appreciate your pre- sence--your kindly interest in being here to witness the Dresentation of our diplomas, the symbol of and reward for twelve momentous years. We wish to thank you for guiding our steps through these years. You gave us advice and courage when we were in need of them. You have attempted to guide us in our steps to adulthood by pointing out to us the way in which a successful person must live. Our future is uncertain, and your guidiance will give us the courage to strive for success. Now, after your faithful years of teaching and prow tection, we shall endeavor to apply our knowledge in everything that we do. The first step we must take is the finding of a place in life which best satisfies our attitudes and desires, In order to do this, we must take advantage of the oppor- tunities which are given to us. Of course, these oopor- tunities will not come to us. We must earn them, After our adjustment in the walk of life which we choose, we must next strive for a successful, enjoyable, and beneficial life. In order to achieve this kind of life, we must be ambitious and do a little more than is expected of us each day. The accomplishments which we make should be completed to the best of our abilities. During the remaining years of our lives, we shall thank each and every one of you for giving us our motto, nThe Beginning-Not The End? We shall apply this motto to our thinking when we meet disappointments and problems in our lives, N 14 K sf ff! 1 sv fri si.. VALEDICTORY Greetings a1l---- and farewell! Well-known paths, halls, classrooms, grounds----farewell! We shall no longer follow the familiar trails nor see the same landmarks. Our paths will be in different directions leading us to new and unexplored areas. Farewell to that which we have lovede---but, we eagerly greet the newl Goodbye to Gomer High! Goodbye to our teachers who have trained us for our future. Their willingness--their very eagerness-eto help, far beyond the call of duty, has been our greatest inspiration. They will live always in our memories. The future anxiously awaits us! Its manifest problems are up to us to adequately meet. We already have a fine start because of the competent preparation we have received from our parents, our teachers, and our spirited classmates. This training, together with our own individual make-up, will help make a new and exciting future in which we hope to be creative and constructive. That is, we hope to be a success. But what is success? To many people it means different things. To some, it is wealth. To others, it is being hold in high esteem. Many are content with just a happy home. Perhaps success can best be defined as making the most of our abilities and being happy in what we are doing. So many people have said that opportunities for the, future are few, that there will be no new inventions, that all discoveries have been made. --what about the very recent developments of satellites and space travel? Surely this should prove to us that we have only begun to inventg we have only begun to discover! ---- Gur opportunities have no limit! ---- Our faith in the future has no bounds. We walk into the future with eagerness, with inquisitive minds and with faith in ourselves, determined to make the most of our own individual aptitudes. l.,,L.Lf..A'L- L f-'k','L'C' ' ' ' ' -- - ' 7 H ---- -'W ' ' - .Y , ,, M , W,---.. , ,, ,,.--..-.., , , , J.-5' ECDRT JENNINGS EQUITY CCD. Under the six watnhfdl eyes of Miss Griffiths, Ctwo in her glasses, and two 13 the back of her head? we started to learn the three R's. Carol Sue Metzger and John Smith were chosen to act as the crown bearers for the Halloween Carnival, September 6, l948, finds us in the third grade Among the things we remember most about this year were our love notes, which were found by Mrs. Beougherc The fourth grade was much the same, September 6, 1950, is the date on which we entered the fifth grade with Mrs, Daughtry as our teacher, During these years we began Dreparing for High Schools We started our first club, each eager to become an officer. We felt the blow of discipline in Hplacesu where it hurt, when we would have to go outside the room and get our hands cracked, or stand in the coat-room. In the fall of N52,H Mrs, Jones took on the great task of leading us, and during our eighth year Mr. Ackerman was our advisor. We started our Freshman year with Mr. Sandy as our class advisor. This was the year when we were finally promoted to the Study Hall. Our class officers were Carol Foulkes, Presidentg Carol Metzger, Vice Presidentg Dorothy Micha, Secretaryg and Terry Brenneman, Treasurer. Carol Metzger and Dorothy Mlcha were elected Junior High Cheerleaders out of our class, Carol Metzger and Tom Frysinger were selected as Arch Bearers for the Halloween Carnival. Our Sophomore year started under the guidance of Mrs Bowers, We elected the following officers: Terry Brenneman, Presidentg John Metzger, Vice President, Dlane Roberts, Secretaryg and Sue Evans, Treasurer. We entertained the school with a one act play, nGett1ng Gracie Graduated.n Carol Sue and Dorothy Jane were elected cheerleaders from our class. Now we are looking forward to Graduation and the Alumni. And last but not least, 'W A S H I N G T O N.' , PRoPHEcr Well, here it is, May 28th, the year 1968. Diane and I are just ready to board the Helio-B-lO0 that flies through the air with the speed of light. It is just a new invention and we have consented to be the first to try it out. We were per- mitted to choose our destination and we decided on Russia, where our good friend and old classmate, Michael B. Roeder, is the U. S. Ambassador. Well, we're ready to go so we'll push the button. here already!! --But look! That isn't the Embassy. It like Africa with all those trees and monkeys. There's of black people dancing around a pot with a fire under Harkli Who's that in the pot? Why none other than one -We're looks a lot it. of our dear classmates, Dave Logan. We'll certainly have to do some- thing about that! We fly our Helio-B-100 over to the pot and pull Dave out. He thanks us for saving his life and explainsf that he is a missionary just come to Africa. We ask him to accompany us to Russia, and he is delighted. We again push the button for Russia, but this isn't the Embassy either! It looks like a Fiesta Day in Mexico with the gaily colored dresses and happy people. --Say, who is that familiar looking person selling ntortillasu in that little cart? --Sure enough, there is another one of the grad- uates of dear Gomer High, Doug Davis. We talk to Doug, and tell him of our adventures. --He mentions that we must be sure to see the Bullfight. Rhea Feaster is the Star Matador.-What?l A matador? --We all decide to go to see her.--We purchase seats next to the box which Doug said is reserved honor. She decides to come along with us. --We push the button this time not really expecting to get to Russia. --We don't11 We land in Hawaii! We think this is the ideal chance to visit our Senior Vice President, Tom Frysinger, who is stationed here with the Air Force. ---- We have to wait a while before we can see Captain Frysinger because just now, he is trying out one of the new Double Supersonic jetettes. ----Here he is now! He offers to take us all out and show us the sights. While sightseeing, we run into another old school chum, Vern Cellar! He is a barber on a big globe traveling passenger oceanliner. A very good way to see the world! Both men decide to come along with us on our trio to the Embassy. We again step into the Helio-B-100, wondering if we will, this time, get to Russia. We press the button. --We're in Australia! We decide to see a baseball game, the Championship of all Australian baseball. The teams are the Australian Wolves and the Australian Bobcats. We are just getting settled with our refreshments when we see the coach of the Australian Bobcats. We can hardly believe our eyes because it is another of our classmates, Dorothy Micha, ---- Of course the Bobcats win! --We congratulate and talk to Dorothy. We learn that she is also teaching in a big University. Dorothy tells us about another of our classmates, Carol Metzger, who is nearby. She which has become very famous is the head of a huge hospital for 1t's research on 'hypo- cheratauseshis,' a dreaded disease. Carol and Dorothy both decide to continue the trip with us. Our next stop is again way off course--back to the States. It is California, and whom do we see but that new young movie star, fanother Elvis, they call himl, and old friend, Dave Sherrick, who is, at this moment, sailing his boat. He takes us all for a ride, and we talk along with us. All of us want to go to the moon, so we push the button, and what do you know--that is where we land?Ll ---- And whom do we see on tie moon? Why none other than the Senior Class President larry Brennemanl! His occupation is grow- ing and eslliog overs. He says that the moon is wonderful for growing flowers and, believe me, you have never seen such beautiful specimen. However, he says that business is not yet too good because some people are still afraid to fly to the moon, We all have turns out to be a delicious picnic lunch on the moon and it a wonderful reunion. We find that all of us have accomolished Quite a bit in the last ten years. It is time for us to go, their homes and work. Diane so we take everyone back to and I return to our posts in the U.
