Wicker GOLDTHWAITE EAGLES' FOOT BALL The Goldthwaite Eagle eleven of 1948 won four games and lost five during the season. They began the season with a hard won victory over Hamilton, lost an exciting game to the Coleman Bluecats, and then lost to the San Saba Armadillos, 1948 District champs. The statistics of this game are interesting to note, because with a few breaks falling to the Eagles, the score would have been different. They rallied the next week to give the Burnet Bulldogs a decisive defeat, re- peated their victory during the next game with Mason, then lost three hard-fought games to Lampasas, Marble Falls, and Fredericksburg. To end a successful season the Eagles soundly swatted the Llano Yellowjackets for a 33 to 12 victory. The Eagles scored a total of 168 points to the opponents 150. R. Miller J. Miller Hill Stark

Hamil Lynch played a driving backfield all season. John Alex Miller played a good backfield and during the Coleman game ran seventy-seven yards for the longest run of the season. David Hill, Billy Mack Stark, and Bobby Leverett played well as ends and managed to tote the pigskin across a number of times. Robert Henry Johnson played capably at quarterback and carried the pigskin during the Fredericksburg game. Jesse Hammond, Le roy Henkes, Billy Joe Heath, and Billy Hanson played very good ball in the line. Wayne Long also played in the line until the Marble Falls game when he broke his leg and the team lost his valuable service. Carlin Dale Wicker played a wonderful game at center all season. Tom Boyd and Ralph Massey played outstanding substitute ball in the backfield during the Lampasas game. Billy Joe Heath, John Alex Miller, David Hill, and Jesse Hammond were chosen in the second string All-District. Carlin Dale Wicker was chosen first string All-District center for the season of 1948. m ...na l A '-2 Hanson Massey Lynch Rahl
