His knowledge, his accomplishments, his understanding — all these things have been represented by light. In the same manner, the evil which man has faced — his failures, his faults, his enemies, his ignorance, his lack of understanding — has been symbolized by darkness. The great spiritual leaders of mankind have been called “enlightened” and man’s lowest ebb is called his “dark ages.” The very struggle between man and the forces which would destroy his civilization has been likened to a struggle between light and darkness. 6 Ml ' S. M. K. Malkcum 10 We MoHor Mrs. B. K. Balkcum is that intelligent, help- ful lady who serves our school as its full time guidance counselor. The efforts of the organization were climaxed by the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet. These future homemakers use their talents to serve the community. 103 Uiology Club Senior ' Division The GHS Biology Club, under the di- rection of Miss Geraldine Jones, offered an oppor- tunity for students to continue to ex- plore this area of interest even after class commitments ceased. These students find job opportunities in local stores. As juniors, members of the Class of ’66 honored last year’s graduating class with a traditional gift — the Junior-Senior Dance. Countless hours spent converting the interior of the gym into an out- door garden resulted in a setting of beauty for one of the best-at- tended dances in years. Junior-Senior T I 12 The refreshment table was almost as popular as the dance floor. Pre-game festivities saw cheerleaders and friends lined up to cheer the team. Momecoming An overflowing stadium and a game fall of suspense and excitement highlighted Homecoming ’65. This thrilled-packed football clash saw Wilson, in the final seconds of play, on the Goldsboro one-foot line with the score 14-10. The Quakes held, the clock ran out, and minutes later alumni and undergrads alike filled the GHS gymnasium to celebrate the victory with a homecoming dance. No one was as happy as Coach Whisenhunt and Roy 0 — unless it was the whole GHS football team. 113 Awestruck, the junior cast listened attentively as Jeanette Clack broke the news that the railroad might “come right through that door” of Tinfinger’s Ice Cream Parlor. The Sophomores sold $3,986 in subscriptions, the Juniors turned in $5,555, and the Seniors were the top class with $6,062. SENIORS cant Coach Chick Doak conducted our first magazine drive assembly. Spirit and competition among the classes ran high, as illustrated by the posters and banners. Divine Comrade, for strength to play the game. It is easy enough to play when I am winning, when I feel fresh and there are no odds against me; but when things are going wrong and I am tempted to cheat, to gamble, or to quit, then I need Thy help. I want to take life as a game and play it fair and hard. To do this, I need some strong leader, so I pray that Thou will always be with me. When I am cowardly or tired or baffled, give the sense that Thou art by my side, telling me how to play my way and giving me the courage to keep on.
