K. Williamson, Advisor This is America, land of the free. This is the land of the golden wheat field and rolling green meadow, a land richly blessed. This, too, is the land of state fairs, watermelon, foot-long hot dogs, cotton candy, and football games. America has been generously endowed with a great heritage. It is a heritage which has given us much to be proud of: a govern- ment of the people, a government that insures the dignity and worth of its citizens. I am an American. I am one of many who can be called America's greatest natural resource. I have come to America from different parts of the world in search of a better life. And, like many, I have come to know America as the country which offers just that. I know, too, that, as a young American, I have only to take what is offered in education and vocational training. It is for these reasons that I, like all Americans, am proud to be able to say freely, America is my country. Varsity Club Prayer When the score stands against me and there seems little chance to win, when there is a whole half to play and I am hot and tired and sick at heart, then I pray, Divine Comrade, for strength to play the game. It is easy enough to play when I am winning, when I feel fresh and there are no odds against meg but when things are go- ing wrong and I am tempted to cheat, to gamble, or to quit, then I need Thy help. I want to take life as a game and play it fair and hard. To do this, I need some strong lead- er, so I pray that Thou art al- ways with me. When I am cowardly or tired, or baffled, give me the sense that Thou art by my side, telling me how to plan my way and giving me the courage to keep on. Be with me in the contests o-f today and all through life's courses. Amen. rr - s s as I , at e ' 9 rt ar rca 2 , ,,r, , i Advisor VARSITY CLUB OFFICERS-FRONT ROW: Sammy Vinson,.
