,fgw haf' awe 0 From early in September until late in January all roads lead to the smoke- filled attic on Park Avenue B., mecca of the hard working annual staff. For here are the winter quarters of the 1956 Gohisca Staff, the fantastic organiza- tion, which, for years, has been enthralling hundreds. Amid a welter of humans, animals, cages, and arenas, a veritable miracle unfolds before the hundreds of Annual fans. An idea conceived many months before comes into being. Carefully studied plans and quick improvisations are blended imperceptibly into a fascinating whole that even those respon- sible for the spectacular end-product are not aware of the exact nature of the process. As the day for departure from quarters draws near, activities in the crowded attic become more frenzied. New problems constantly arise. Exas- perations of all sorts are commonplace. There is a great burst of final effort all over the place. Nerves become jangled and tempers are severely tested as the pressure mounts. The winter quarters become a scene of utmost confusion. It seems impossible that this wild scramble could be productive. But, surprisingly enough, out of this tumult and disorder, a beautifully coordinated and perfectly presented, 1956 Gohisca, more thrilling and more gorgeous than any of its predecessors, will be born on time.
