Roma 0 Tkuslees The keynote at our conversation . . . should be a sense of all that we owe to God. This translation of Ephesians 5:4 by Phillips is arresting. I realize that Paul in this context meant by conversation our speech, but I do not believe that we violate the intention of Paul if we apply this verse to the whole of a believer's life - and read it thus: The keynote of our life ought to be a sense of all that we owe to God. Now the keynote is the note that is meant to dominate. The keynote address of a convention, for instance, is meant to set the tone of the entire gathering. Just so our sense of all that we owe to God ought to dominate our whole-being - thought and conduct. To let the sense of what we OWe to God dominate us, however, is only another way of saying that the graciousness of God ought to make us grateful. And whenever men respond in gratitude to God, there the miracle happens - they in turn b'ecome gracious to their fellows. This is our prayer for the Class of '56. alumni O lcets Willard Stromvall, Vice-President; Louise Nelson, Treas urer; John Benson, President; Sr. Hulda Simenson, Ex cutive Secretary of the Alumni Fellowship; Tom E. Mail Publicity Director. Not pictured: Irene Strehlow Secretary. Pastor Berni C. Opsol D For the mountains moy deport and hills be removed, but my steadfast shall not depart from you, and my enant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you. -Isaioh 54:10. Thus God spoke to the prophet long ago and thus He speaks to us today. May you each glory in His sure and steadfast promise of peace and mercy as you walk humbly in His Way. In a world of uncertainty and constant shadow of war and trouble, young peo- ple need to live the life of positive faith and cheerful optimism. Your class theme of thanks for tri- umph in Christ gives us the key to vic- torious living. The triumph of Christ on His cross, through His resurrection, and by His second coming is our foundation. Thanksgiving for what He has done and will do is a channel and urge for our continuing life in Christ's service. God bless you in your victorious living! PASTOR A. W. DICKHART Your iourney is in a country of many hills and many valleys. Some of the way must be in the shadows, but it was the disciples walking in the shadows of whom it was said, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. May your iourney be always blest with His pres- ence. PASTOR K. C. GRUNDAHL It is good to render praises unto God even in the midst of privations, persecu- tions or adversity. May you be able to say with the Psalmist, O God, thou art my God, I seek thee, my soul thirsts for thee; my flesh faints for thee, as in a dry and weary land where no water is. So I have looked upon thee in the sanctuary, beholding thy power and glory. Because thy steadfast love is bet- ter than life, my lips wiII praise thee. So I will bless thee as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on thy name. --Psalm 63:1-4 PASTOR A. M. STONE Even youths shoII faint and be weary, and the young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. -Isoiah 40:30-31 PASTOR RUSSELL A. VIKSTROM 7aculhl My word . . . shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it. -Isaiah 55:11 Those who have given themselves to o consecrated study of God's Word here at LBI can be assured that the purposes of God are being accomplished in their lives. PASTOR ROY R. BLOOMQUIST The way of victory for the believer is always in Christ . As soon as you slip away from that place of safety and power, there is nothing but spiritual defeat and frustration. To be in Christ is to live in the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us. As long as you live in these riches in Christ , all the resources of His resur- rection are at your disposal for triumph- ant living. Th-anks be to God! DR. 0. GORNITZKA ?caculhl Th-anks be to God, who gives us . . . our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks to the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Thanks for saying, He iHoly Spiritl will take what is mine and declare it to you. Thanks Holy Spirit for using humans to help ldeclarel. Thanks for directing students to study the Word. Thanks, class of '56, for continuing to the conclusion of the course. At the con- clusion may each of you say, I have kept the faith. PASTOR A. R. PETERSEN We trust that hours of intensve study of the Scriptures at lBl have been for each of you a wonderful adventure of spiritual enrichment and discoveries. Ours is the most prize-conscious of all generations. We are agreed that there is something fascinating about a treasure hunt. God has through His Spirit lifted your sights to the treasures that shall never fade. Grant that you may, press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God' in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 3:14 PASTOR A. S. BERG Doors may open and doors may close, Nations may rise and nations may fall, But the fields remain white unto harvest. PASTOR BERNHARD A. HELLAND To God who always leads you in triumph in His Son Give thanks and true devotion until your work is done; The harvest still is plenteous, the laborers are few, Into this field of service the Lord is calling you. DR. J. E. GRONLI Remember that the Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. -Lamentations 3:25 OLETTA WALD There is no distinction . . . the same lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. -Romans 10:12.
