3716 7949 REFLECTOR Published by tho Graduating Class of the Lutheran Bible lnstitutc Minneapolis, Minnesota JESUS ONLYWLwith this reminder before our eyes we entered LBl. We entered hesitantly because we knew the Word would search, melt, break down, and lay bare our hearts. We have felt the power of the Holy Spirit breaking down our stubborn and proud natures until we saw that we were nothing in ourselves. We have seen Christ and only Christ, as our life, living, and salvation. Day after day we have studied the Word under the guidance of consecrated teachers. and now we are to walk in faith as we step out into the world to serve our Lord and Savior. We step out in humility because we have seen the greatness Of God and have. felt how very small and how limited our minds are. We leave the instruction of our teachers, but our great Teacher. the Holy Spirit, goes with us. We pray that we may truly walk worthily 0f the Lord. The prinmry purpose of these Bihle teaching missions is to preach and teach the hVord 0f Cod in order that souls might he saved. It also serx'es the purpose of extending the work of the school. in so far as they have am opportunity to inform these different com- munities about the extensive work which is being carried on. This serves a twofold pur- pose of bringing Christ to a great number 01 people. and also of bringing a greater number uf friends and students to the Lutheran Bible Institute. May the Lord continue to use these Bible teaching missions to the glory and honor of His name and to the furthernnux of His kingdom. Rev. hV. Ii. Khmittcr assisted by Eloise Perry The Psalm of Life Radio continucs t0 hc considered a Very vii'ectix 0 advertising medium by the business world today. There the question is-how to reach the greatest number of people with the least effort. and at the lowest possible cost. Radio is the answer. Perhaps there has nox'vr boon :1 time when that same thing has become as necessary in spreading the Gospel 21s is the cusc today. Events loading to the end are speeding up. The conflict between Christ amd zmtichrist is becoming more pronounced. World destruction is now :1 possibility through the inventions of man. And many souls not saved! It is our prayer that the Lord may be using our radio ministry in some way to point more souls to Christ. It is likewise needed to strengthen those who already have come to Christ. Our radio mail indicates quite clearly that there is fruit. But our pruycr is for more fruit. Psalm of Life now goes forth daily over the followingr stations: iVCAL, Northfield; KEYD, Minneapolis; VVEBC, Duluth; KVVDM, Des Moines; KSDNt Aberdvcn; KUNJ. Fargo; and KILO, Grand Forks. PRAYER AND PRAISE XVEEK Prayer and Praise XVeek, 19-19. will he remem- hered as a time of deep heart searching, the. main consideration being the chief problem of all human existence: man himself as sinner. Pastor Oscar C. Hanson led morning,r Bible studies in Psalm 51. the Restoration Psalm, or Psalm of the Penitent. XVhen we confess our sin, we ean only plead Gods mercy. W'e must have a recognition that we sin against Cod, that we are sinners, and that we haVe wicked hearts. Codis appointed way of cleansing us is through Christ, the Lamb of God that takes away sin. By Ilis atonng blood that eleanseth from all sin, God is able to give us new, clean hearts. Forgiveness in Christ that follows repentant confession removes sin's barrier, restores joy, and gives spiritual power. Cod exchanges the harden of guilt for a burden for lost souls. XVe can teach others Godis way only when we are in the right relationship to Ilim. The purpose of all work of the church is that sinners he converted to God. It is not our activity, however, but God's XVortl that reaches hearts. God can only use us when we are broken, of eontrite and repentant hearts. Then we are able and willing,r to pray for the work of Ilis kingdom. Dr. Ans of Luther Seminary opened his evening inspirational series with the challenge. WVhat is your answer to lifels deepest prohlemlyi namely: facing God as a sinner. Satan tries to keep us from seeing the issue or urges procrastination. Man answers the question superficially. hy eomparing himself with others, or seriously, setting up a religious system of iidols and clon'tisf'. God's answer to this all-important question is Christ and the cross. Blind Bartilnaeus recognized his need and that jesus was the answer to it, this because someone told him! These recognitions proceeded into action. A saving faith is more than intellectual assent. It is self- eonnnitment, entrusting and surrendering ourselves to Jesus. Christianity is a personal relation- ship with Christ that involves a personal knowledge of Him. not just knowingr about Him. It lixes in the present by faith. and must be renewed by: communion. the XVord and prayer. confession. daily renewal. and consecration. makingr common cause with Christ. Saved to serve. we eannot live for the world. Discipleship means: Follow Me. Living in fellowship with Christ gives self-realization. lVe are enslaved and destroyed by the things in the world that we think will give us freedom. We ought to follow Iesns because. as He died for our sin. the cross has a elaini on us. lVe need to follow llim heeause jesns only can supply the forgix e- ness and power we need. 0111' all-snliieient Christ is the answer to the sin problem which is hasie and requires a realistic l'aeing. Anythingr that disregards its seriousness is no solution. The good news is that Cod in Christls death. resunretion. and promised return has dealt with sin in all its aspects: guilt and condemnation. dominating power. and radical presenee. All the weeks messages centered this em- phasis on our hearts: a fuller realization of our own sinfnlness and a deeper appreeiation ol. our Lord and Savior. NB'V grace have ye been saved through faith i131 2:8i. Thrilled over salvation by faith. we can easily neglect the purpose of salvation. Relo 111g over the blesf b: of redemption. we are apt to forget that we were created in Christ Jesus for good works iEih. 410i. In contrast with the Good Samaritan, we may drift into the attitude of the Levite, who was always oeeupied with religious things but Hpassed by 011 the other side.
