Board of Education 3 C l l FRANK BARTELS PERRY COFFMAN VVILLIAM DANGL FRANK HINER The board of education plays a key role in the organization and operation of our school. It is their responsibility, as representatives of the community, to provide the best in educational facilities, buildings and instruction for us, the students at Godwin. They IIIUSE reflect the Wishes of the people in formulating and Carry- ing out school policy. We, in turn, appreciate their efforts and the MRS. MARJORIE EVANS results of these efforts, for We feel that they have worked to our benefit during our years here. It is with this thought in mind that we thank these people and the community they represent for the good things they have pro- vided for us. Our hope is to prove that the time, energy and finance invested in us will pay a good return. Janitors and Clerk 5 X UI Ill XXX ,XXIII RSOX ID. IIXRI XI. HULEIUX XI. Class of 'Sl Oh, to be a Senior. That was our dream all through our school years, and the closer it came the more anxious we got. Now we're having our turn. lt's a lot of hard work and responsibility, but Oh, what fun! Our activities started with the junior, Senior Mixer held in the gym, but we still remained faithful to our boys on the football team by coming out every Friday night, and having still more fun at the dances following the games. Then the Senior Play was chosen, the cast se- lected and weary forms could be seen, nightly, dragging themselves to and from the library, but our joy was complete when all our work finally produced the hilarious GOOD NIGHT LADIES.', While some were work- ing on the play, others were fast and furiously trying to make the Hoat for our Homecoming Queen and her court, the best ever made. This too was made a reality with the Homecoming parade followed by faithful fans and the dance, with its return of Alumni. As football season ended and basketball began, the production of the 1951 Wolverine began also. Work, work and more work. Everyone worked feverishly, pasting pictures, typing copy and anything to meet the deadlines which always crept up so fast. The Senior trip took the limelight next. Every- one, but mostly the girls spent hours packing. Butterflies were the main content of our stom- aches the day we left, but in no time at all we were back home again. And now as we wander through the halls of dear old Godwin, the halls that re-echo the times we've spent inside its walls, We hear the strains of Pomp and Circumstance and realize it is time for us to graduate . . . into the world. Officers: President, jim Huhbardg Advisor, john Spoelmang Advisor, Arlene DeYoungg Secretary, joan Croftg Vice President, Bill Roodg Treasurer, Class of I952 Hi! Let me see your class ring! -the word most frequently spoken by 110 juniors on the first day of the new school year. Then new class members were introduced and after a flurry of campaigning the class ofhcers were elected. T om Davis. Right away the juniors worked on a magazine sale to strengthen their treasury. After that they built a float which won the Hrst prize at Homecoming. The junior-Senior Mixer, in November, found both classes eating, dancing, and enjoying the program in the high school gym. School Daze flashed around school when the juniors went on another money raising campaign. Plans for the junior Play, They Shook the Family Tree, in April, and the Prom in May, filled the remaining months with happy anticipation and plenty of hard work for the class. The year ended happily with a class picnic, and the juniors looked back on a very successful year. G. ANDERSON R. CHAPIN G. EBELS B. GARRIOCK ., , B. BELL R. Bmeizimicr E. Bnsizmizu M. BULLISS D. HOAIRIE Class of l955 A growing feeling of class spirit, full days of activity in a busy schedule, partici- pation in school' events were all important phases of the eighth gradcr's life at Godwin this year. Representatives of the class of '55 were elected to the newly-formed junior Stu- dent Council, and played an important part in the success of that organization. Participation in projects, parties, and many other extra-class activities showed that the class of '55 had an abundance of talent and ambition. The eighth grade took an active part in the work of the junior Red Cross. With the seventh grade, they carried on the services of this chapter and made it a worthwhile activity. The Hal- loween party with the seventh grade was an enjoyable event. The class of 1955 is looking forward to next year and the following years at God- win with an attitude of serious interest and enthusiasm. N. BLOENI P. BLOEINI M. BLOORL: M. BOERSMA R, BROCKMEIER C. National Honor Society The National Honor Society consisted of only five Seniors when the year began, but un- daunted they went to work and laid out the year's plans. Mr. Poppink, the advisor, called the first meet- ing of the year at which time Irene Ryno was elected President, jerry Dangl, Vice-president, Ellen Koorndyk, Secretary, Mary Knapp, Treasurer, and Bob Charon, Student Advisor. One of the big money making projects of the year undertaken by the Honor Society was a candy raffle. Chances were sold by the mem- bers and three boxes of candy were given away. The Honor Society sponsored a panel com- posed of freshmen from all the different col- leges in Michigan who had graduated from Godwin last Vear. All Seniors and any juniors who were interested in going to college could attend this panel discussion. The panel mem- bers told about their first year in college and all requirements that are needed. Any ques- tions were gladly answered. At the close of the First semester, several more members were admitted to the Honor Society, both juniors and Seniors. After the faculty had chosen them on the basis of scholarship, leader- ship, citizenship, and service, they were duly inducted in an impressive assembly. Many eyes were green with envy that day, but everyone was reminded that there was another chance for seventh through eleventh graders in the years to come. The whiz of the Hre siren always kept all the members on the run. Summer came and the last active year for its Senior members closed, leaving a small, but fine group with which to carry on the ideals of the National Honor So- ciety during '51 and '52. Kinetic Energy 33 as HX W R f 2. A fx JACK O'BRIEN BILL JONES FRANK MOREY The Seniors led the Wolverines to undisputed championship this year for the first time in our history. Being the backbone of the team and showing the kind of spirit tht leads only to a title. Four- teen boys wore their gold and blue uniforms for the last time, but there is another class coming up to take the place of these fellows. They set a standard for Godwin to follow in the years to come. Hats off to these boys. The first round of conference play saw the squad, although ragged on the edges, fight with true NVolverine spirit to make the games thril- lers with last minute baskets deciding the tilts. The squad came out on the short end of many of these games but persistence and hard work smoothed this eager group of boys into a fine and well balanced teamg making avenges for previous defeats in the second round of con- ference play. The team had a mediocre season with five wins and ten losses. which doesn't show favorably the ability the team iinally possessed. BOB CHARON, MR.
