WIILVEBINE 1933 OUR record of this year at Godwin, our readers, will be found in the following pages torn at random from the private diary of Boy. Who is he? You know him. Heis just any senior boy at Godwin. Perhaps he sits newt to you in history. Seholastieally, he is only average. He has a good time but he also has his serious moments. He uses slang-maybe too much of it, as most boys do. His best friend is Girl. You will hear often of her and also of Sis and Junior - a part of the family. His confidante is Di, or diary, to you. These pages, from Di, are collected here in no very definite order. We hope you will be generous in understanding Boy. He is not unusual or ewtraordinary in any way, but is just a regular fellow even as you and I. Editor Ruth Poll Business Manager Virginia McMaster Charles C. Saur Superintendent Western State, A.B.. They're not a bad bunch when you get to know them, Di. In fact they're the youngest, peppiest gathering of school teachers I 've ever seen. They have an uncanny way of knowing what a guy has on his mind and when, why he cuts his classes and what's the matter with him, in general. Today, in a very im,pressiz'e ceremony, the IILt'IlllIl'1'.V of the new Honor Society were atnnouneed. Certain of the faculty spoke on the four qualities p1'e-requisite for fmemberslzip: seholarslzip, character, leadership, and serziiee. I guess there were quite a few of us who enziied those eIez'en stu- dents who stood up today and toolf the pledge. The Society is planning to sponsor some Z'iCll'0-1l!l7ICl'S after games and to help other students selzolastically. They are also going to keep a file of eduiea- tional balletivls for student reference. The niemllers are going to try, this year, to streizgtlzen their weakest link. They have decided it is leadership and are going to do something about it. Not a bad idea! December ri To love his fellow-men sincerely- Hello Di, Home from being thoroughly introduced, entertained and miwed at the Student Council M iafer, I salute you briefly, Di. With Coach Miller as director of games, you can bet there was nothing slow about them. VV e played streets and alleys, hit and run, three deep, etc. And you should have seen some of the staid professors and professoresses burn u p the floor I After the grand march., we ate cider and wafers. Some of us fellows went a little easy on the refreslafmcnts, still suffering from an overdose of pancakes and sausages from the preceding Varsity Club supper. Initiation ceremonies consisted, partly, in washing dishes, which was a dirty job to say the least. Second Semester Back Row -C. Walstra, J. Beard, H. Van Ek, P. Mole-sta. Front RowffMr. Kutsche, L. All were gowned in the new red robes provided through the eyforts of Mr. Saur, M rs. Foa' and community mothers. The school orchestra accompanied. Why should soft Christmas music, dim lights, and earnest faces above white collars transform a gyfmnasiuin, into a cathedral and hundreds of ordinarily noisy students into a group of sincere wor- shippers? September :27 After repast Dear Di, Somewhat bored with conjugations of amo and square roots and other such nonsense, I let my mind drift while in session room third hour today, to pleas- anter matters. And to my surprise I found the impressive strains of Pomp and Circumstanee a fitting setting for my interlude. The notes poured forth from the cold air shaft - members of our young orchestra already practising to march the dignified seniors out of the institution. Looks as if Godwin halls might be ringing with something more than stu- dents' slang. Today marked the organization of the school orchestra under the direction of Miss Barr. The organization boasts twenty-seven instruments. Pat M olesta is the acting president, Doris Arrance, secretary, and Joe Bravata, treas- urer. I t meets three times a weelf, at noon. They plan to play for the Cantata at Christmas, for the junior play in April, and for the junior high operetta. Contata Ilrchestra 4 2.1, E A AC ..og.... . Ili-Y Back Row-D. McDonald, C. Todd, J. Guess I'ni get- ting sentimental. W' e certainly did show Comstock what we were made of and led the parade for downs all the way. Incidentally, three of our fellow students crashed the gate into the all-conference team. S enior, Pollg and Juniors, Richard Charon and Fred Schouw. Not bad! At last we defeated our longstanding rival, Lee, by a score of lo'-14. Close, but what a game! We held the edge all the way through and captains Skinner and Friend held high point positions. Gee! it looked great to see our two yell leaders in their gold-and-blue sweaters, send up a yell for our flashing Wolverines. An' you know Di, the All-Conference Team was chosen., today, and three of our fellow side-kicks have the honor of being on it. 'Course, our corcaptains Skinner and Friend, and from the newcomers our sim-footer, Ray Darrow.
