The Staff of the ' 47 Plowboy has endeavored to make this year's annual one of the best. It has been our aim to produce an annual which will present our school as you would always like to remember it. In order to clearly represent the activity, the progressiveness and the happiness of our school, our watchword has been simplicity. As a tie that binds those who are yet come and those who have gone before, we present The Plowboy of 194-7. Signed Annual Staff of -r f a 'fear ZE LOTUS CURTIS £c ffb i ' KATHERINE WIGLEY ■4lAAi4Ta t A cuiaCjl) (9 . dvi HERBERT CARL.TOV Manacjt V To the Students of Gober High School: Another year has gone by and we are proud of you and your records, both as students and as worthy citizens of this great free country of ours. The terrible war is over and our minds can be turned to the needs of our fellowman, at home and abroad. Many homes have deep and lasting scars due to sorrows and trouble brought on by this war. Now, as never before, is your chance to improve your minds by study and hard work in school or college, thus fitting you to compete with the best and hold your own. The boy and girl without an education in this atomic age of the world is handicapped. There are two strikes against him from the start and this is too great a margin to ever overcome. An educated mind is a weapon of strength, an investment that pays great dividends while we are living, and much honor after we are dead, so don't let any of us neglect his opportunities now. In looking to the time when you will use your yearbooks to assist you in reminiscences of your High School Days, may they stand out as Apples of gold on pictures of silver , and I can wish for all of you a future of increasing usefulness and happiness« Sincerely yours, M. Therefore, we hereby declare this to be our last will and testament, made by us, declaring them to be null and void and of no effect. We sincerely hope you will make the best use possible of these items and will grow to cherish them as we have in the past years. i Zelotus Curtis being of sound mind and body, wills to J. T. Thompson his No. 10 basketball suit. It should fit you pretty well J. T., and we hope you do as good in it as Zelotus did. Herbert gives to Numan Archer his old history workbook. Maybe you won't need it next year, Numan, but Herbert feels it might come in handy if you decide to be a history 'fessor. As Jean possesses the position of Assistant Editor on the Annual, and she will not need it after this year, she wills it to Nannette, only on one condition, that you, Nannette Baker, give your solemn word to give your best to the job. To Dorotty Bush, Zelotus pines to give his job of Editor on the Annual Staff. It's a good job Dorothy, but the salary? Well there just isn't any, but there is plenty of hard work. To G. W. Green goes the most prized possession of Hubert Freeman, Jr. - his basketball suit. Take good care of it G. W. and Hubert guarantees it to bring you good luck. Neal gives his place as Joke Editor on the paper staff to Charles Ray. He feels he is being very generous. Anyway, not everyone possesses the ability to make people laugh. Otha, seeing that he will not be here for much longer says he gives to Charles Ray the obligation of taking care of his girl friends for him. Especially a certain one. Florence wills to Almena her dilapidated locker in the hall, It doesn't have any way to lock it to keep the burglars out, but maybe a scarecrow would do. Gaynell wills to Sarah her place as Captain of the basketball team, and to Katherine her Biology workbook. George would like James Buie to have his basketball suit. It might need alterations but it can stand a few. Billy G. wills to Bobby Dunn his football suit. Hope you can do as good in it as Billy did. 4 COMMENCEMENT SERMON WAS DELIVERED BY PLACE___- DATE COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS WAS DELIVERED BY PLACE DATE PLACE- DATE-L i TOASTMASTER— ADDRESSES— I WENT WITH—i COMMENTS JUNIORS NUMAN ARCHER BOBBY JOYCE ODUM KENNETH TURMAN BENNIE BROILES PAULINE CLARK JAMES BUIE ALMENA WILLIAMS J.
