CLASS PROPHECY We spent the rest of the afternoon talkmg ow ex the many happy tlmes we had had back at our old home town and of the whereabouts of our re malnlhg classmates Jo as you can well expect had kept ln touch wlth all the members of the class and I learned very many lnterestlng thmgs about them from her I learned that Mary Blackburn was now chlef llbrarlan of the Con gresslonal Library and had also won the Academy Award for Chemlcal Research Tom Conwell was the scout leader of forty some boys ln Boston Massachusetts Harold Metzger was a prosperous farmer IH northern Iowa and was farmlng on a large scale Beatrlce Kall was the first woman audltor She was now audltlng books ln the Mlnneapolls Flour Mxll Leroy Kmsey was now a lleutenant who went to the Randolph Macon Mllltafy School at Front Royal Vlrglnla and Robert Kadrx was now the head prlnter of the New York Tr1bune As It was growlng late I returned to the hotel to get some rest before salllng As I passed by the desk I heard someone talklng to the desk clerk The voxce sounded famlllar I turned around and to my surprlse lt was another of my classmates Ray Kennedy He lmmedlately recog nlzed me and we began talklng He told me that he was now a Physlcal Fducatxon coach at Harvard Unlverslty and that Dean Mllls was a Sclence teacher ln the same college The next mornlng I phoned a taxl to take me to the boat A fine 1945 Ford drove up to the hotel and the drlver attxred ln a chauffer s unlform was none other than Wlllard Rlce He sand that he had been running the wheels off the Fords for many years I walked up the gangplank to my stateroom After belng there for a tlme I declded to take a stroll on the Class A deck The words H1 Kay greeted me and there stood Jon Homan He was captaln of the boat He was a radlo expert when he left Gnaden but his career had changed ment Jean Wrlght who was a Jltterbug Instructor had her class of thirty Jltterbugs perform for us As I looked over the crowd of spectators I spled Glenn Hamllton I went to talk to hlm and found that he too was on hls way to France to advance hlS muslcal knowledge He wanted to be an even better vlollnlst than he was now He saxd that Norwood Davldson was travellng Wlth hlm and that he was golng to study more French so that he could be a French teacher The next mornlng as I was strolhng down the deck I noticed a famxl lar figure It was Robert Klser He told me that even though he had broken h1s leg on Stocker s hxll while a Semor ln hlgh school he had taken up sknng and was now one of the champlon skners of the day He was on hls way to Swltzerland to practlce sknng durmg the next few months I was greatly pleased w1th the success wlth whlch the members of the class of 1940 had met and went forth on my Journey with a greater determlnatlon to succeed ID llfe WFIST SHOF C0 J R IYFIF Lhrichswille Ohio lhrlch xllle Ohio J S BFUK IPWFIFR 6 TAXI lhrichsville Ohio Uhrlchsxille Ohio . v . CLASS PROPHECY In the summer of 1945 I Kathleen S1mmers was granted a leave of absence as stenographer from my employer ln order that I mlght go abroad to fulfill my greatest deslre m llfe that of bemg a fashlon artlst Whlle ln New York I stopped at the Publlc Natmonal Bank and Trust Company of New York to secure travellng checks to use on my tr1p Who hould happen to come to the cashler wlndow but Josephlne Mlshler my old school chum who was now head cashler of the bank After maklng out my checks we began to talk of the many frlends and good tlmes we had had together ln good old G H S She mformed me that June Leonhard was now head bookkeeper ln lhlS bank and that very soon she would enter the vows of matrlmony wxth a young preacher whom she had met III Lltxtz Pennsylvama Later they plan to go to the Hawauan Islands a mlsslonarles As It was near the noon hour Jo mvlted me to lunch wlth her at the Dutch Tavern Who should come to take our orders but Ethel Lawver who was now head waltress of the restaurant It was lunch hour for all employers and thelr employees and 1nto the restaurant walked Irma George the prlvate secretary of The John Buttercup Company Inc It had been rumored that she and John had been seen qulte often together In New York and that the buddlng romance would come to a cllmax some tlme ln June The headlmes of a newspaper caught my eye and as I. read them I reahzed that another former classmate had become quxte popular as a baseball pltcher In bold face tvpe were the words BURMICH ACE HURLER OF THE NEW YORK YANKEES IS FETED IN HOLLY WOOD me to go wlth her to the hospltal to meet some friends whom she thought I would enjoy seemg On 8l'ltBI'1I1g the hospltal I notlced a famlllar figure seated at the desk It was none other than Mary Lou Grott who was now head nurse of the 1nst1tut1on She told us that she and Mxldred Kopp had graduated from Nurses Tralnmg together and that Mlldred was now nurslng ln a h0Splta1 ln Plttsburgh Jo sald that she wanted to see a patlent ln Room No 4 As I stepped 1ns1de the door I was very much surprlsed to see the former Vera Edwards who was now the Wlfe of a prosperous garage man back m the old home town She had been strlcken wlth an attack of appendlcltls Whlle on a V1Slt to New York Clty As we were about to leave the hospltal a tall man attlred ln whlte came walkmg down the corrldor He seemed greatly pleased to see us for he was another member of the class of 1940 Clarence Rank who was now a doctor here HFLI FR BRIIQ PILF Xl ORKS J E SMITH NCMIOIIII PSIOVYII 0hl0 Dry Cgods gnd Groceries I,hl'iChSVill6 Ohio SCHRL INFR BROS DEFORATORQ COX df RONIIG CLOTHING STORE Gnadenhuttmn Oluo Uhrichsville Ohio Y 3 . .
