D. West. A Wilcox. J. Donks. J. Romedy. O. Jackson. M. Falstrom. C. Hughes The JV Terrors of Cooch Chuck Fehr and Coach Burnette Rooks ended the season with a 3-4 record. Despite posting a losing retcord. the JV Terrors hod many bright spots. The JV, after losing its first game to Waycross, posted three straight wins over Wayne. Drodwell, and Camden. The JV was hurt late in the season by the loss of players due to injuries, os well os players being moved up to help out on the varsity. The future is bright for the varsity with the help of these JV players. 112 JV FOOTBALL FRESHMEN FOOTBALL If you think you ore beaten, you ore: If you think you dare not. you won't; If you'd like to win, but don’t think you con, It's almost o cinch you won't. If you think you'll lose, you're lost; For out in the world you'll find Success begins with o fellow's will. It's oil in o state of mind. If you think you're outclassed, you ore; You’ve got to think high to rise . . . You’ve got to be sure of yourself Before you con even win a prize Life's battles don’t always go To the Stronger or faster man; But sooner or later the man who wins Is the man who thinks he con. Author Unknown One of the biggest obstacles that freshmen football players must overcome is a lack of self- confidence. The poem quoted above was a favorite of Coach Paul Bear Bryant, and it became a symbol of sorts for the 1936 Freshmen football team. Football teaches many lessons beyond the game itself. One of the most important is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Sometimes it seems that if you ore knocked down just once more, you might decide to stay down and refuse to get back up. Those who do get back up are better prepared to get bock up later when life’s problems seem too much to bear. This group of freshmen gained confidence and maturity each week and ended the season as a good football ream by bearing cross town rival Brunswick High. The Freshman football team gained their confidence through the leadership of Coach Hubbert and Coach Spaulding. 114 BOYS CROSS COUNTRY The 1986 Boys Cross Country team enjoyed o successful season, competing in two meets and finishing third in the region. He really sparked the team with his hustle. Coach Spaulding says that his players have learned a lot this year, have improved fundamen- tally, and have had fun doing so.
