ORACLE 1978 Gloversville High School Gloversville, New York • Under The Stars ♦ Step into the evening air and gaze at the wondrous stars. These glittery spheres enable us to look beyond and grant wishes to all those under them. Falling stars, twinkling stars, shooting stars . . . .all with different characteristics, but each with auality of its own. They are like us - the grade ates of 1978. You may have been a theatrical star, whose performance received a standing ovation. You may have been a star athlete, who scored the winning points in a crucial game. You may have been a star in academic achievement. You may not have been a star yet, but in the coming years, each one of us will be a star in our own way. Each of us has twinkled and glowed and flourished. Each of us has been a source of inspiration for those who follow us; they are the stars of tomorrow. The Oracle staff of 1978 hopes this yearbook will bring you the glow of happi- ness. We hope it will shine in your hearts for years to come. Hope shines eternal. Shine on graduates. v • v y V- e V ''t 'N S There have been many stars throughout our high school career. Star athletes, star performers, star musicians and star scholars have all been a part of our lives here at G.H.S. Every one of us is a star in his own special way. Many of our teachers are stars. Last spring, we Seniors chose one teacher to whom we wanted to dedicate Oracle 78 . That special, star teacher is Mr. John S. VanArnam. Mr. VanArnam is a vibrant and enthusiastic teacher. By using gestures and sometimes acting things out, he is able to make history come alive. He is a very expressive person and he is fun to learn from. Mr. Van- Arnam's charm and charisma make him loved and appreciated wher- ever he goes. The Senior Class of 1978 wishes him luck and good fortune for the future. John and Nancy get together. An unusually large turnout for Field Hockey this year allowed Coach Tootell to form, for the first time, two separate squads. Due to lack of experience, the teams' performance left some- thing to be desired. Tootell em- phasized the enthusiasm and spirit displayed by members of both teams. For the Varsity, co-captains Sue Barkevich and Nancy Whitman received the Best Offense and Best Defense awards, respective- ly, while Mary Autilio earned the title of Best All-Around. Karen DelSignore Jeffrey DeMagistris Steven DelSignore Kelly DeRocker Debra J. D'Errico Alan DesJardins 141 Rita: Hard at work. Never a bull!!! ARIES March 21 to April 19 Ruler-Mars Color-Bright Red Lucky Day-Tuesday Lucky Number-7 5 Aries is the Spring sign-the first, pioneering and exploring. Those born under this fiery sign are born leaders and full of enthusiastic, driven energy. Your governing planet is Mars, ruling the head, you are somewhat headstrong. Mentally you are somewhat skeptical and inquiring. Your love is pas- sionate, dedicated and quite ideal- istic. You are changable and able to live by your own wit. It makes you forward-looking. You are the pi- oneer of the zodiac with the gift of leading those less progressive than you. TAURUS ¥ April 20 to May 20 Ruller-Venus Lucky Day-Friday Color-Green Lucky Numbers-1 9 You, Taurus, are an earthy, stable person, fond of the arts, family, home and comforts. You are loving, devoted and appreciative of all the good things in life. You can be extravagant, materialistic, practical and full of common sense. You can also be sensual, stubborn and fond of your own ideas. Most Taureans have a talent for music, singing, act- ing and anything connected with beauty. You can be very bull headed, rigid and overly conserva- tive in your outlook and opinion. You can be loved into making a change, but never driven. 142 A Skeptical Arien ¥ ¥ ¥ A Typical Taurean Teacher Music anyone? ¥ ¥ ¥■ GEMINI May 21 to June 20 Ruler-Mercury Color-Mauve Lucky Day-Wednesday Lucky Number-3 4 Duality is the word that charact- erizes you, Gemini. You are volatile, at times irrational, full of conflicts and contradictions. You can become detached, analytical, non-emotional. Yet you can also be witty, charming, warm and fun.
