The team had only one home meet, On Memorial Day the Band f . . . oimed for a long procession be- ginning at 8th Avenue d d' an is- banding at the cemetery. OUT IDE SCENES Students have a friendly get-together during the noon-hour on their return from lunch. Mr. Cooney. Supervisor of Music. and some anxious students pre- pare to get one of the buses loaded for the annual picnic at Car- oga Lake. 5. . Since 1955. the ninth grade has been a part of GHS. Here. some freshmen congregate on the Estee bridge. The listen to students and equally ready to give advice in his office, principal of GHS, Mr. Ferguson, is always ready to if yur Miss Brown, Mrs. Tulton. and Mrs. Mullin wait for the hungry hoard of students to invade the Cafeteria. This is the calm before the storm. NSIDE SCENES Students waiting in line before they enter the bovs' gym for the annual awards assembly. Mr, Male, Superintendent of Schools, and Mr. Ferguson, Principal of GHS, were among the many GHS fans attend- ing the winter sports events. Over seventy members of the Class of '59 racked their brains as they endeav- ored to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship. INSIDE SCENES w.u,,M Chemistry students work hard during their two lab periods a week to Complete the required experiments without an explo- sion. Intermediate Algebra students work hard preparing for their final examination in Room 104. This may be the end of mathematics for many of the students. no. V, The Health Office offers first aid to all GHS stu- dents whenever it is neces- sary. Here, Miss Farmer applies a dressing as Mrs. Warner looks on. bs Miss Connors and Miss jones are among the many guidance counselors whose job is to aid GHS students in planning their programs at GHS. NSIDE SCENES I aid 1 i ily QQ JU IOR During the afternoon of May 2, the decorating committee prepared the Boulevard School audi- torium for the big event. The throne reflects the Oriental theme, Shangri-La. The chaperones enjoyed meeting each couple as they entered the exotic surroundings of the Orient. Arthur Ferguson, principal of GHS, and William Male, superintendent of schools, looked on as the couples danced. Other chaperones were members of the Board of Education and families of the officers of the junior Class. After the crowning of the King and the Queen, couples were organized to form the grand march. Boys in white dinner jackets and girls in evening gowns portrayed a colorful picture as they marched around the auditorium. The morning of the Prom, the class voted for their choice of King and Queen. The King and the Queen of the 1957 Prom, Douglas Miller and Vrenda Miller, crowned the selected couple, Donna Licardo and Guy Ciaccio, as their suc- cessors. 3 , ai. , ..r Between dances, Penny Worley and Bob Winig conversed with Nancy Gifford and her escort. Such occurrences took place between numbers played by Steve Anthony's band. During the intermission the couples had refreshments in the cafeteria of Boulevard School. h in PRC ,Ku Peter Sgambato as chairman of the junior Prom decorating committee helped his assistants to put up elaborate decorations. They spent many hours at this task. At the close of the dance, decorations came down as a cascade of Oriental beautyg thus, the long weeks of preparation came to an end. M M-A -f- W-A-M--u-V-wwf-'www-W I4 Miss Stempfle, along with Miss Connors and Miss jones, enjoys the privileges of the teachers' lounge. Miss Stempfle is always willing to stay after school in order to aid her students. DEDICA l STEMPFLE EVELYN r'Wh6f'6'U67' the Roman conqueri, there be dwells. In her desire to impress upon us, her students, the importance of learning, Miss Stempfle leaves upon us traces of her unforgettable zeal and enthusiasm for her work. Latin is sometimes called a dead language, but Miss Stempfle's quick wit and effervescent personality have aroused her students from their lethargy and brought to life once more the glory that was ancient Rome. Her untiring efforts to help, praise, criticize, and correct, and in so doing to inspire her students with higher ideals and love of the fine arts have been greatly ap- preciated by all of us. It is because of her dedication to the task of molding young minds and of making GHS the school we love, that we, the class of 1959, proudly dedicate our Oracle to MISS EVELYN STEMPFLE 1 The co-editors and the business manager talk over coordination of work. We trust you will enjoy the material within this year- book as much as we have enjoyed putting it together. Our theme is built around a little man in the dress of a painter. If you follow him and his footsteps you will be guided through each division of our book . . As we look back at this Oracle in years to come, we will 'be reminded of the students, teachers, and friends, who helped make our high school days happy ones. 9 . a sz! rg II , 0 . , ..
