The next September we entered the second grade as grown little folks and left nmommyn at home. Mrs. Virgie Chandler was standing with open arms, waiting to welcome us into her second grade room. Here we learned , the fundamenmals of arithmetic and were intro uced to spelling. Unfortunate the twins, Leon and Cleon Compton, wyman Johnson, and Jimmy Potter left us,53 J' or Wgreener pasturesn. The fundamentals of geography and science were added to our studies, if were really accomplishing something. we were which made us feel as we. sorry to lose Virginia Duren but happily gained Doris Banks, Neen Vaughn, T Mildred Holcomb and Ila Harkins. ' d Mrs. Chandler's room which began our Eighteen happy youngsters entere fourth year of studies. The multiplication tables were gladly finished but to our sorrow long division was added. Three more students were added to our r Weldon Rice Burtis McLeod, and Doris Handel. Much of the same prog f fth rade teacher We lost Georgia Click and Taylor Davis but gained Wan a n . We were happy to have Mrs. Lovell for our teacher again in the sixth ki but ained Claudine Beal The seventh grade found us eagerly taking part in sp -L Minter was our ball coach as well as teacher. Estelle Richardson and Dorisuw- Handel left us that year. The Rmllowing year was our last year in elementary school. We lost ,' Clara Peacock, B urtis McLeod, Altha Bennett, Weldon Rice, Wanda Minter, ' and Louise Richardson. I The nineth grade found us a little frightened as high school freshmen but Mr. Merriwether helped us along until we knew how things were set up. 1' ,Freshman Day was an exciting day for us. we lost Donald Lee Anderson and V- Wanda Sheffield but gained Ruth Ellen Cutler and Charles Bivens. Mr. Beathard was our homeroom teacher in the tenth grade, where we took English , algebra, typing and homemaking or vocational agriculture. Many of us made the ball 6 A K teams . 5 Our junior year found us again in Mr. Merriwether's homeroom. Many L tivities kept us busy during the entire year as we sponsored the Junior- Senior reception, put on a three-act play and most of us were members f the ' b ll clubs with both boys and girls winning district championship ihp a . . . . d a ,R Basketball., We lost Jo Ann Marrs, Caroline Bolch, Louise Richardson an gg Weldon Rice.
