Y W, - LETTERS FRUM THE PEGPLE Dear Admiral Trost: The USS GLOVER visited the Muskegon area from July 24 thru July.27, 1986- lt WHS Our pleasure to welcome the ship and her officers and crew to our comrnunlty. . . The people of Muskegon County and surrounding areas were given the oDD0fiUl1ltY.t0 VIEW the Navy firsthand and were eager and interested in touring the ship. There were long .lines waiting to board the ship each day. lt is noteworthy that the seventy-five thousandth visitor to the USS GLOVER boarded here in Muskegon. n The ship was in immaculate condition, the tours were well conducted, and the tour guides were very knowledgeable. The excellence of Naval training was evident at all times. We have heard many favorable remarks about the fine conduct of the crew members as they became ac- quainted with our community. Captain McCullough is to be complimented. We look forward to being included on your future Great Lakes Cruise schedules. . . . Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce Dear Commander tDestroyer Squadron T wol As a pilot providing services in District No. 5 on the Great Lakes, it has been my opportuni- ty during the last seven years to provide pilotage services to the naval vessels that have trans- mitted this district of the Great Lakes on their annual l'Great Lakes Cruise . This year l pro- vided such service for the USS GLOVER from July 2nd through July 28th. l would like to take this opportunity to compliment the vessel's Captain, Commander D. G. McCullough, her executive Officer, Lt. Commander Bill Glass and all officers and crew members. The entire crew on board the vessel displayed tremendous ability, willingness and cooperation. The discipline of the crew was a compliment to the United States Navy while the gentlemen were both on board the vessel as well as while they were on shore. lt is my opinion that the crew of the USS GLOVER left an extremely favorable impression on all of the persons with whom they came in contact on the Great Lakes. This is a compliment to them, the oflicers as well as to the United States Navy and should prove to have a positive impact over the years to come. ln closing, l would like to congratulate the 2nd Destroyer Squadron for sending such a fine sampling of men on the 1986 Great Lakes Cruise. l was very proud to have the opportunity to serve with the Navy and this exemplary crew on the USS GLOVER, 1986. . . . Captain Richard E. Olsen
