HOOPER Gorham State Teachers Col- lege, Mech. Drawing, Floor- master. ART DEPARTMENT The Art Department is headed by Mr. ' How- ard A. Curtis, who along with the other art teachers employ such means as will best bring to each student a better understanding of art. Each student is brought into a world where he has an opportunity to create and apply what he has learned. The subject matter covers fine, ap- plied, and industrial arts with special attention given to creative ability, mechanics, and appre- ciation of fine work. MUSIC DEPARTMENT Miss Eleanor F. Moore, Director of Music Education, directs the general chorus, Glee Club, and Choir. Mr. Robert Puff directs the R.O.T.C. Band and orchestra in the High School. Miss Moore also teaches classes in Music Theory and Music Appreciation. Students are welcome to join these classes if they enjoy music or if they are musically inclined. ELEANOR F. MARYELLEN FLANAGAN Boston Univ., Sargent College, B.S.; Girls Physical Educa- tion; Girls Leaders Club, Girls varsity Basketball and softball teams. PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT The Physical Education Dept, provides instruction in the rules of sports, gymnastic skills, and teamwork that emphasize the importance of physical fitness. Miss Maryellen Flanagan instructs the freshman and sophomore girls who are required to take gym; Mr. Robert Delisle teaches freshman boys. The Boys’ and Girls’ Leaders Club are sponsored by our physical education instructors as are the intramural sports. HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT The Home Economics Department provides a comprehensive program in homemaking, wardrobe planning, principles of nutrition, and family living. Its purpose is to offer enriching experiences that will help to prepare the teenager for wom- anhood. The subject matter is presented from the standpoint of the girl’s interest in improving her personal appearance, developing skills in sewing, planning correct diets, and gaining a perspective on life’s adjustments.
