Beginning this year, however, a new course in modern mathe- matics has been added to the curriculum. The class, taught by Mr. Mauger, emphasizes the reasons behind the rules rather than memorization of the rules themselves. Mr. Hagstrom, head of the department, has launched this program in order that the student might be exposed to the newer methods in mathematics. Beginning in the freshman year, this course will be worked into the whole math program of some college- bound students. The modern math course exemplifies Gloucester’s fine up-to-date mathematics department NORMA P. HARRIS Bucknell University, A.B.; Algebra I, General Math MARGARET LEVY College of the Holy Names.
