Under the direction of Mr. Harold B. Geary, the Voca- tional School fully equips the boys to meet challenges in institutions of higher learning. Gloucester High School can boast of a well-organized and dedicated Science Department staffed by capable teach- ers Classes are offered in general science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics. In addition to the college prep courses, there are special classes in chemistry and physics for those wishing only a practical knowledge of those sub- jects. The Science Department also offers to seniors who are especially interested in the field of biology an advanced course in that subject. The various courses strive to encourage students to develop their reasoning power, to do more independent investigation on their own. and to become more familiar with the world in which they live. PHYSICAL EDUCATION The Physical Education Department, with instructors Miss Maryellen Flanagan and Mr. Donald Snyder, helps bring physical fitness to freshman boys and freshman and sophomore girls. Sports ranging from basketball to e d hockey are taught to the students. In addition students are taught the proper use of various types of gymnastic equipment. As a result of their training many students go on to participate in varsity sports. All participants gain valuable training from this program. HOWARD A. CURTIS Mass.
