History Is “OF” This World — Wk f It - If The Social Studies De- partment, under Miss Rosa- lynde Hammons, offers courses in History, Geog- raphy, Civics, and Econom- ics. Through studying the history of his own and other countries, the student is better prepared to meet the responsibilities in our democracy. Also, the stu- dent is able to understand the current events and their significance through a knowledge of the past. The chief aim of the department is to offer to the students a general knowledge of history which enables him to have a better under- standing of today ' s world. Pupils, enrolled in the Business Education Depart- ment, under the direction of Miss Olga Williams, are trained in the skills neces- sary for employment in business offices. Through this course, the graduates are ready to enter directly into employment as typists, stenographers, bookkeep- ers, machine operators, and general clerks. The students are also prepared to enter into further education in their field. 15

X Is the Sine for Math The Math Department, under the direction of Mr. Alfred U. Hagstrom, offers the students courses in both elemen- tary and advanced math- ematics. The student, through a selection of General Math, Algebra, Plane Geometry, Solid Geometry, Trigonometry, and Review Math, can find a course suitable to his specific needs, wheth- er for a college prepara- tory course or for a gen- eral knowledge of math. Mr. Manuel F. Martins; Mr. John E. Caniff, Jr.; Mr. Alfred U. Hagstrom, Department Head; Mr. B. Augus- tus Nunes, Jr.; Mr. Joseph E. Manger, Jr.; Mr. Aarne A. Frigard; and Mr. Harvey M. Korobkin. Science Is Nearly Out of This World It is the intent of the Science Department, under the direction of Mr. Robert W. Card, to arouse general interest in science with the hope that more students will select science for their life work, to show the methods which scientists employ in seeking out new knowledge and in solving problems which arise in areas which are already familiar, to impart the body of scientific knowledge necessary in comprehending our pres- ent environment and in following developments in this scientific age. Home Economics , the Women ' s Job Areas of study includ- ed in the Home Eco- nomics courses, taught by Mrs. Barbara J. Bradstreet and Miss Priscilla L. Cobb, are Foods, Clothing, Household Management, Household Equipment, Child Care, Marriage and Family Relations, Money Management, Grooming, Household Tailoring, Tai- loring for ' the Family, Pat- tern Construction, and In- terior Decoration. Mrs. Bradstreet and Miss Cobb believe that their course contributes in a unique manner to one of the important goals of education. This subject, centered on home activi- ties and relationships, en- ables the student to as- sume the responsibility of homemaking intelligently. and Vocational Training for the Men. Boys who enter the Vocational School practice what they have learned by attending classes for one week and working in the shops on the alter- nate week. They may train to become auto me- chanics, carpenters, elec- tricians, machinists, print- ers, or sheet metal work- ers.
