Presenting Our Foreign Students Walk together, talk together, O ye peoples of the earth; then and only then shall ye have peace. This, the motto of the American Field Service, is one which might well be adopted by all. Through living with other people and learning their different customs, the students participating in this scholarship program learn about others and erase their prejudices. These students who will have prominent places in their countries will be able to lessen world strife in future years. We, the students of Gloucester High School, hope that auring their stay here, Heba Brynjolfs and Wilton Tongco will take back to Iceland and the Philippines a clearer understanding of America and her people, and will convey to others their impressions. We also wish to thank them for showing us another way of life, and hope that the work done by them and their fellow students will make Peace on earth, good will toward men a reality rather than an ideal. 6

Our Guiding Hands To the Class of 1 959: You are your country ' s, your state ' s, your com- munity ' s, and your parents ' investment for the future. The world today is only thirty-six hours large. The essential for survival is the development of a world in which skilled and dedicated citizens who are mor- ally and spiritually strong are willing to devote this new found power to the advancement of mankind rather than to its destruction. Yours is a tremendous responsibility. You are leav- ing high school during the most critical era that the world has known. You, and the hundreds of thou- sands of your counterparts in all of the high schools in our country, are going to determine the eventual outcome of the struggle for good or evil which exists today. It is a tremendous responsibility to place on shoulders as young as yours, but in this instance there is no alternative. As you leave Gloucester High School, your paths will separate in different directions. For some it will mean a continuation of formal education; for others, entry into what will be your life vocation, and for many of the boys, the armed services. Whatever the path we can only hope and trust that you will apply yourselves to the utmost of your capabilities to the end that you will have the realization that your con- tribution is your maximum effort. You take with you the traditions of a great high school. Make those who follow proud of you. Sincerely, L. MUNRO GRANDY Superintendent of Schools MR. J. STANLEY THOMPSON Assistant Superintendent of Schools 8
