To the Members of the Class of 1955: Yours is a lucky generation. You are graduating into the best world the sun ever has risen upon. There are more people than there ever were before; they know more than people ever have known; they can do, and they are doing, more than people ever have done; they have more than any people ever have had; and, finally, because of these things, there are more opportunities for you than there ever have been for any of your ancestors. If your ancestors did well with what they had to work with, you should do wonders in comparison. Your homes will be better, your work will be more suited to your talents, your leisure time will be tre- mendous, percentagewise, and your children will enjoy educational opportunities indefinable even now. Look around you at the substance of the world; don’t let the clouds get in your eyes. May good fortune attend you as you work to realize on the promise the world holds out to you. Arthur N. Those values and habits which this school has worked to develop will help you to meet this new and more adult life. Choose now, each for himself, a set of ideals. To the Members of the Graduating Class of 1955: You are among thousands of young men and women who will be graduating this year from hundreds of high schools throughout the country. Some of you will be continuing with your education in colleges, univer- sities, or other post secondary schools. Some of you will enter the service of your country. Some of you will become breadwinners. All of you will need to take part in solving problems as you live and have your being in the several communities. Education never ends. From cradle to the grave we all have call upon our past experiences to meet the needs of life. It is my hope that your past twelve years in the public schools have given you the skills, experiences, and the attitudes which will help you — To Be Effective Citizens in a Democracy. To Have a High Quality of Character and Moral Values. An Ability and Attitude to Think Critically. A Mastery of the Basic Facts in Skills that will help you to become Self-Directing Individuals, as well as Contributing Members of Society. Keep your horizons high and broad. When this happens remember that the best lies in the present and the future, that the path of school days was trav- elled only to lead on to wider experiences and more satisfying successes.
