Grogan cmd Karcher tie tor third place, with honorable mention going to Clan- cey and Bradley. Lois I.owe's work with paint and brush wins her honors as Most Artistic Girl hands down, with M. Can you draw, too???? Ernest Williams. a newcomer from Essex, painting diligently, is defeated by Dana. who, with a smile and a swish of his brush, slides in to take first place as Most Artistic Boy. Boys declare there's no such thing as a practi- cal girl, but Bunny doesn't care, and is voted our Most Practical Girl with Aggie Walsh and M. Livingston on her heels. Dear Melvin is our Most Practical Boy, with Bob Marden only two votes behind. ls somebody kidding??? Boys, you'll be interested to know that we have a very long list ot romantic girls in our class. One girl put W'OW!! after his name. Exclamation marks included. We wonder who it was . . . Grogan comes in next sharing the spotlight with Alan A. and Alonzo. Poirier polled one vote, but voting for oneself doesn't count, Dick. Our most popular girl is also our Most Agree- able girl challenged by P. Andrews, who comes in a very close second. Other agreeables include M. Grimes, L. Lowe. Dot Day and Louise Bennett. Boys, it seems, are agreeable this year. Fred Bradley heads the very long list and Alan A. and Burgarella smile agreeably at each other for sec- ond place, And we must not forget to mention R. Hendrickson. Iohnny Fattig, Corliss. and Poirier. Aggie Walsh sets about in a determined man- ner to win the title ot Most Argumentative Girl. Anna Thanos argues with her that she should have won, and Madeline Shields declares that they are both wrong. Well, what can you expect? Strange, but Poirier, our Most Argumentative Boy, polled two votes as Most Agreeable. Have we a Iekyll-Hyde character in our class? Other argumentatives include Buzzy. O'Connell. and Rubin. Maryline our B.B. Cbrunette beautyl wins Most Attractive without doubt. Nat. Gibbs and Day are her only competitors. Gentlemen, it seems, prefer brunettes this year. Alan. our handsome tsighll baton twirler takes a bow as Most Attractive Boy. With only l0 and 7 votes respectively, Marden and Bradiey come in next. Clancey received one vote. Ian. F.. Babe W.. and Dot Day are the elticient females of our class. Holding their own for the males are Birdseye, Poirier and Dick Carroll. Yes, Girls-we have a bashtul boy. Only one. Blushing brightly, Everett peeps out from his specs to receive the almost extinct title of Most Bashlul Boy. Poirier comes in second for the men, while Dot Perkins. Lois Lowe and Iean Perry claim sec- ond, third and fourth place for the women. Leading the tongue waggers of G.H.S. are Helen DeLotto and Karcher. Kay Noyes. P. Andrews and Ioan Oakes loudly dispute for the title. Buuy. minus one vote to tie, looks for the nearest ear and gives out. Cheers tor Shirley Wright our Most Witty Girl with no competition except those girls who voted for themselves: Barb Morgan, Les Lane. Winnie Kiff, Ioan Strople. and Thelma Lane. Miss Gale is a close second, with Mr. Corrigan, Mr. Lane and Mr. Parkhurst trailing behind. Without question there are many gifts in our class but Melvin turns out to be the prize package -isighll. Fred Bradley doesn't do so bad either. Ian and Henry are our Most Likely to Suc- ceed's-hands down. Don't disappoint us now. IEW HIGH SCHOOL OPENS DOORS September 1941 saw the student body and iculty of G.H.S. moving bag and baggage rom Dale Ave. to Blynman Ave, One of ie outstanding features of the New High chool, we soon discovered, was the intro- uction of a complete and excellently iuipped vocational school. With Mr. Scott as irector, various shops were opened to boys 'ho were qualified for admission to these lasses. Electrical, automotive, sheet-metal, arpentry, and print shops were open to nys interested in these vauious types of York. We fully appreciate these shops but ften secretly wished that we'd never heard f them. The Vocational shops were respon- ,ble for the academic school's continuing 1 session until 2:35 P.M. everyday. 1LASS OF '43 TAKES LEAD IN MILITARY AFFAIRS In R.O.T.C. affairs we early became a rilliant class. As sophomores B. Clancey 'on the Major George H, Morse medal for fle marksmanship and H. Birdseyc was warded a. medal for excellence as a sopho- ore driller. Our junior year saw us even etter prepared to compete with the upper- ass officers. John Fattig was awarded the learst Trophy for marksmanship and John Connell was presented with the Colonel hum medal. awarded to the most outstand- ig corporal. Clancey fuxther distinguished imself by placing second in the Haskell rill on Field Day. C. Amero became the military hero of the year by winning the ndividual drill and the Haskell drill. G. Panikas of the Band placed third in the ndividual drill and the Band our junior ear walked off with the Prize Squad medals. 'our of our officers were members of this 'rize Squad their junior year: D. Carroll, 5. Coull, G. Danikas, and A. Alexander. ATHLETICS IN SKIRTS .After the class of '43 leaves G.H.S., it 'ill be remembered for its outstanding girl s well as boy athletes. The senior girls who participated in zftball hold the title of being the only ndeffiafefl and untied softball team in the :hool. JOHN DICKMAN ELECTED Dead-Eye is a nickname bestowed upon Marie Arvilla because of' her excellence on the rifie team. Practicing' every afternoon in the rifle range she has shot many a bull's eye. Our senior girls can well be counted upon to obtain high bowling scores. Marion Wolfe, Betty Boughton, Polly St, Pierre, and Ruthe Perry are the feminine Ned Days of bowling. Last but not least we mention the Victory Corps Drill Team. The girls wish to express their deepest appreciation to Miss Savage and to Sergeant Tucker for the time and effort they gave in making this team a tremendous success. CLASS PRESIDENT Early in the spring of our junior year we nominated and elected our class officers. By an overwhelming majority John Dickman was elected class President. The fair sex not to be outdone by the boys who elected an extremely popular boy as president, elected Jean Firth as Vice-president. The other officers who held their positions cap- ably were Bud MacKay class treasurer tno one seems to know just what he treasuredj and Dot Day as class secretary. So began our year as the ruling body of G.H.S. In 1939 we had entered G.H.S. as a group of' bewildered, belittled freshman but in the years following, we had become learned and we are nov: bewildered seniors. O, cruel fate. In the year 1943 we inaugu- rated the birth of' our class paper, the FISHERMAN'S REEL, in which we recorded all the things we thought worth remember- ing of our past four years. FROSH FROLIC AT FIRESIDE The Freshman History Club, inaugurated 1910, dissolved 1940, reveled in a day of merriment as they celebrated, early in May, the end of an outstanding year. The younger set swarmed to Winge1'sheek beach following their leaders Poirier, Perkins, Stockbridge, and John Dickman. There, the club sponsor Arthur Smith and the other chaperoncs joined in the frolicing, partici- pating in various games and indulging in many water sports despite the frigid weather. We displayed our proficiency in building a. fire with this result: singed hot dogs, charcoal marshmallows and stewed clams. A good time was had by all. 58 CLASSIFIED ADS Wanted: Competent fumigator to extermi- nate the third floor and in particular room 39. i0ld Building! The Poland Springs House at Auburn played host tolus and for yhe tint time in our young lives we felt, im- portant. That year we sophs were brought into the limelight by the appearance of Vicki Golart and Donny Goodwin. as members of the cast of the Mockinz Bird. We shall pass very quietly over the year 1942 for it saw none of us featured in that year's Glee Club production. 1943 was the year for us seniors to star in the operetta. P. Cooley, J. Hall, and J.
