A great deal has been written about rights and responsi- bilities; such as, the oft quoted, “with every right comes a responsibility” or “if you can’t show responsibility you should not have the right I submit to you that as you leave us that you may well remember our philosophy concerning these words “You have a right to be responsible.” We have tried to fol- low that philosophy as we have attempted to exercise our responsibility to you and our community. Your right to be responsible has increased since you first joined our educa- tional partnership. I suggest you nurture and expand your responsibilities and develop a further understanding of two basic tenets. First, in addition to our own responsibili- ties we have a responsibility to others. Secondly, of the two words, rights and responsibility, responsibility is most important because rights come from other sources while a sense of responsibility springs from the inner-self. Best wishes to all of you. Dr. Thomas W. Sykes Superintendent of Schools t James H. Hetherington Supervisory and Research Associate Ralph R. DiSibio Administrative Assistant

During your six years at school, many significant changes have taken place in education and in our so- ciety. Like all changes, some have been good and some have been not so good. Your class has shown the ability to handle the additional rights and privileges that have been granted to it and still discharge its responsibilities. I hope you have set a standard for Gloucester City High School classes yet to come. Remember your school, be loyal to it and always work for its improvement. Ralph J. Bracken Principal The ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opening our new areas took place on November 13, 1972. 16
