FOREWORD given the staff of the 1958 yearbook an unusual opportunity for a theme. Since the history of Gloucester City High School in an accumula- tion of the past events and fine traditions, we honor the past and are proud of our heritage. With much enthusiasm and expectation we look toward the future. We anticipate its being as prosperous as the past. The past and future meet on a thinly drawn line of the present. We hope our theme has drawn these two dimensions of time together for the gratification of all. 2 We, the Senior Class of 1958, wish to dedicate this yearbook to the past, for the past has made us what we are today. When today is completed we will face tomorrow with yesterday's experience behind us. We thank our teachers for passing on their know- ledge and our parents for guiding us so we may therefore meet the future with confidence. When we reach our Golden Anniversary, we shall review the past and come to the realization that the wonderful experiences and teachings of yesteryear have made us what we are. ADMINISTRATION Education is, in this modern age, the most im- portant business in your life. It will become more and more so in the future. We trust that your high school days have given you the foundation on which to build a life of service to your fellow tnan as well as a means to develop yourself to your full potenti- ality. By all means continue your education. Let nothing stand in your way. It will be the key to open doors which might otherwise be closed. The class of 1958 has much to look forward to as it prepares to leave high school and take its place in the community. I hope that the lessons that you have learned in school will prove valuable to you and help you in embarking on a happy and successful career. After graduation, I know that you will continue to be interested in your school and that you w'ill work for its continued improvement. Your class has accomplished much during your years at Gloucester High School and its record is one of which you can be proud. I hope that the next fifty years will bring prosperity and happiness to all. MR. DAVID F. BRIGHTBILL Superintendent of Schools MR. RALPH J. Once inside we recognized the familiar faces of ADELINE BELL, FRANCES BALCHITIS, DOROTHY LEE, JUDY WILGUS, THOMAS LAGGY, and JAMES MARSHALL. Peering out of the window we saw Earth’s Ambassador to the Moon, HOWARD DICKSON, being bid farewell by STEVE HAWTHORNE, Mayor of Gloucester City. Suddenly we noticed a throng of people approaching the plane. In the midst of the crowd was PAT ROGERSON, famous movie starlet. Covering the story were reporters, MADRIAN FRIED- MAN and ALLAN ASHENFELTER, and photographers, RON DAVIDSON and GEORGE WILSON. We felt sure our trip would be a safe one, for pilots, JACK PERSICHETTI and PHIL SCHNELL, were guiding the rocket. As the sign Fasten Your Seatbelt” flashed on, we were on our way to the moon. Passing through the stratosphere, we stopped to dine at the Blue Heaven Inn, owned by DAVE GUANT. Our waitresses were EILEEN WATERS, DOTTY GROFF, and PAT LEGGE. We climbed into our ship and were on our way once again. All of a sudden SONJA ERICK- SON, another passenger, exclaimed that the moon was coming into view. As we neared the object we discovered it was only Sputnik on its trip around the earth. The Fasten Your Seatbelt sign flashed on and we knew that we had arrived on the moon. Embarking from the ship we were met by our friends, MARILYN SPEVACK, PAT RUSK, and ELAINE RAUBE. We hailed a taxi and were surprised to find that our driver was ART ROMANOWSKI. Our reservations at the Golden Skyway Hotel had been made in advance through its manager, BILL WINEGARDNER. The hotel clerk, BOBBIE LOE, called for DON BROWN, bellboy, to take the luggage to our rooms. As we signed the register, we noticed the guest list included: SUE HICKSON, EDNA SUTHER- LAND, DORIS HUGHES, DOTTY DUBOIS, NANCY WADE, BILL SUEFERT, PAUL HENTSCHKE. MILLIARD DICK, BOB DELINE, and JANET SINGLEY. After unpacking our luggage, we decided to take a swim. Sunning themselves beside the pool were: CASS HUDSON, BETTI E KEEBLER, and BETTY ANN VIERICK. We were surprised to find that CHARLIE TOURTUAL was our swimming instructor. That evening we decided to visit several of the various night clubs. We finally ended up at Stardust Haven owned by TOM FOWLER. Highlighting the floor show were the famous comedy team, MURRAY and GRUBB and the Rockcttes: MARY JANE McDERMOTT, JEANNE GALLAGHER, ANN CARR. JOAN POWELL, and DORIS PARENT. Also included in the floor show was famous singer, JUNE McGILL, accompanied at the piano by CHAL STONE. Ringsiding were movie personalities, MARY ELLEN UIBEL and ED GALLAGHER. Table- hopping we noticed JOY SCHARNAGL, Miss Moon of 1958,” and the Rockettes distinguished talent agent, CHARLIE SPENCER. Early the next morning, while glancing at the newspaper we saw that the new bridge designed by DICKENSHEETS, ALLEN, and Company, linking Moon and Venus, was recently completed. Turning to the society page, we read of the recent marriages of SHIRLEY HALL, JEANNETTE KAMPF. AUDREY STILES, and IDA LAMB. We also read that MARGIE LABOR, ROSE PENNOCK, and BETTY ANN DAVIDSON had departed for Paris to study art. Scanning the sports section, we found that HERB BOULDEN’S prediction that RON RAUBE and JACK AVIS would set new Olympic records came true, and that the All-Moon Woman’s Hockey Team, composed of GAIL BEVAN, ANN GRABOWSKI, CONNIE BEAMER, MARGARET PRINCE, BUNNY ROSE, and STELLA TAYLOR, gave a fine showing. That afternoon we attended a fashion show and card party given at the hotel. Modeling fashions designed by PHYLISS STRANG were SANDY KANDLE, DOLORES SHAW, JOAN BENNETT, PATTI MILLER, JOY LACY, and JOANN MAJKSZAK. We played cards with PAT CHEESE- MAN, PAT KNICELEY, LORA SKINNER, and CAROL MANNERS, a group of teachers attend- ing a convention held at the hotel. After such a hectic day we decided to retire early that evening. Feeling rested when we awakened we decided to do some shopping. Walking down Seventh Heaven Avenue we entered an exclusive men’s shop owned by FRITZ SPENCE. BILL BURLEIGH helped us with our purchases. We bought a coat imported from earth and designed by TERRY HUFF. We crossed the street and decided to browse through HERB SMITH S Sport Shop. We noticed that some of the sporting equipment was manufactured by CHAMBERS, ELENBARK, and Sons. We had heard of the Annual Exposition that the Moon Motors Company, owned by DON CATTS, held each year. We caught the moving sidewalks that took us to the Exposition. As we entered the building, we say that it had been built by the WRIGHT Contracting Company and the lighting was furnished by PARKE Atomic Power Service. Arriving in the main hall, we saw cars designed by EMIL CRAMP and BOB KAY. While eating lunch, served by SUE McCOLLIGAN and ANN NEUHAUSER, we chatted with ANITA POPAZIVANOV, NANCY HUBBS, and JOYCE TAYLOR, who are nurses at the local hospital. After an enjoyable trip to the moon, we returned home, tired, but full of lasting memories. 33 THE PARAMOUNT j Mademoi! ■ m i% I Mr. and Miss Artistic TOM FOWLER MARGIE LABOR Mr. Oscar and Miss Emmy ED GALLAGHER MARY ELLEN UIBLE LOR+ skSe°rn Jortual FLOOD Mr. and Miss Timid John ellenbark 37 Mr. and Miss Cut-up HOWARD DIXON AUDREY STILES Air. and Miss Daydream PHIL SCHNELL KASS FLOOD and Miss Pleasant EMII- CRAMP ’AT KNICELY Air. and Miss America FRITZ SPENCE JOY SCHARNAGL AWScK AVIS GAIL BEVAN 'd At JXSZAK Mr. and Miss Senior JACK AVIS MARY ELLEN L IBEL •- ToSS V I- i ch JSabowsici - — NM grA 1 _c Afr. and Miss Yard terry huff .
