Since the beginning of the three years of Archbishop-Bishop Damiano’s ad- ministration, he has made very definite strides to improve the educational facilities of the Camden Diocese. To realize this goal he has undertaken the most rigorous building campaign in the history of the diocese. This expansion of facilities has been undertaken in order to prepare the youth of the diocese for their role as Catholic laymen in the world. This massive construction program has not been limited to schools, but has included churches, rectories, and parish halls. With the continued cooperation and generosity of the people of our diocese, and the prayers and best wishes of the students, the success of this enormous unde- taking now and in the future will be assured. HIS EXCELLENCY THE MOST REVEREND CELESTINE J. DAMIANO, D.D. Archbishop-Bishop of Camden

A FORWARD LOOKING SPIRIT. . . HIS HOLINESS POPE JOHN XXIII Strife has continually segmented the world this past year, as in all previous years. Crises have been repeatedly heaped on suffering populations; yet little has been done to relieve these burdens. We, the Class of 1963, salute Pope John XXIII and dedicate to his Holiness this our annual, as he stands alone among the millions. In an age so helpless amid vast scientific and educational accomplishments, Pope John has arisen to the needs of his flock by calling a General Assembly of the Catholic leaders. Under his auspices, the Second Vatican Council opened on October 11, 1962. Pope John has brought the people of the world together in hope and in prayer. His plea for peace exemplifies his true representation of Christ. Pope John rightfully contends that only in unity can there be peace. It is our earnest prayer that Pope John lives to fulfill the plans and dreams that cherish all men. Pope John XXIII, in his dedicated life, gives hope and example to all our future endeavors in this world. 4

TO MAKE THE CLERGY OF EVERY LEVEL . . . Throughout the Camden Diocese there is the monumental task of guiding the ever important education of the Catholic youth to meet the demanding needs of tomorrow’s world. Such a responsibility demands a capable, hardworking, sincere ad- ministrator. It would be quite difficult to find a better person than Msgr. McGarry to assume this leadership role. He has truly done a remarkable job and we, the Class of 1963,” as well as the residents of the entire diocese are proud of him. Monsignor has demonstrated his ability and foresight to meet his responsibilities. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and our humble prayers, we feel confident that Monsignor will continue to foster the true spirit of Catholic education. 6 RT. REV. MSGR. CHARLES F. McGARRY Diocesan Superintendent of Schools
