Archbishop-Bishop of Camden The members of the class of ’62 acknowledge the faithful support of Arch- bishop-Bishop Damiano who through his co-operation with the school has been a benefactor to all students. Through the intercession of our patroness. Our Lady Queen of Peace, may he always succeed in his numerous endeavors in the growing diocese of Camden. RT. REV. MSGR. EDWARD B. LUCITT Pastor 'PxoudCy (ve dedicate fo you . , , When we think of you, Msgr. Lucitt, the first qualities that come to mind are your remarkable skill and efficiency both as pastor of St. Mary’s and administrator of Gloucester Catholic. Through your influence, the spiritual atmosphere of the parish has been intensified and the academic pace of the school has been accelerated. These, of course, are important achievements, but what really endears you to the students are your own personal qualities. Your friendliness and sincere interest in every student add immeasurably to their development. Therefore in gratitude and appreciation, the class of 1962 hereby dedicate their yearbook to you. May Our Lady Queen of Peace, our patroness, guide you and assist you in all your endeavors. 5 RT. REV. MSGR. CHARLES P. McGARRY Diocesan Superintendent of Schools The students and faculty of Glou- cester Catholic were honored with the presence of Msgr. McGarry and Msgr. Lucitt as the guest speakers at the first of the annual Big Brother Science Fair. We sincerely offer our appreciation and gratitude to the Right Reverend Msgr. McGarry for his interest in Catholic youth. It is our privilege in these perilous times to offer our prayers with him to Our Lady of Peace. As it is one of the responsibilities of Msgr. McGarry to guide the students in the Camden diocese, so also it is our place to realize his ardous duties and to work jointly with him at all times. 6 REVEREND JOHN J. CLARK Assistant Superintendent of Schools Sister Irene Marie is always ready to listen and help us in our problems, as the senior class officers prove by conferring with her regarding programs and activities of interest to the seniors. (Mary Sheldon, secretary, Joseph Wolf, treas- urer, John Cassidy, vice-president, Frank Pa- fumi, president.) We students of Gloucester Catholic are indeed fortunate to have as our principal such a dedicated individual as Sister Irene Marie. Although frequently overburdened by her numerous responsibilities, Sister always has time to help and encourage us. Her warmth and enthusiasm have greatly influenced every phase of our lives, both academic and spiritual. The principles she has inculcated and the ideals she has fostered in the hearts of the students will guide their footsteps in the paths of peace—that most cherished goal of all mavjdnd. REV. Action, rhythm, precision—the keynotes uppermost in the Belles agenda—well demonstrated by their drill. The Belles of St. Mary Drum Bugle Corps, known to all students of Gloucester Catholic as The Belles” are always on hand. Everyone sees them at football games, pep rallies, in parades, and on the field in competition. But the scenes which many fail to see are those that take place before the Belles appear in public. These scenes consist of a group of hard-working girls along with their instructors, who believe in the adage, practice makes perfect.” For their unending zeal and loyalty to Gloucester Catholic, we salute the Belles of St. Mary. fcCayed m a td tut 48 A TITLE WORN WITH HONOR AND DIGNITY BY THE MEMBERS OF THE CORPS. eCte St. T fary CfrOCCl favifaei With the merriment of the Christmas season, Gloucester Catholic students dance around the Yule- tide tree. STUDENT COUNCIL The installation of the Student Council officers took place at the initial assembly. William Savidge de- livers his speech of acceptance. Other officers in turn pledge their allegiance and support to main- taining the proper spirit conducive to Gloucester Catholic. wijijuuuuuuuumiUiJii T1 The Student Council of Gloucester Catholic High School holds membership in the National Association of Student Councils under Secondary School Principals, and another membership in the Association of Student Councils of New Jersey. The main purpose of this organization is to maintain an un- derstanding between faculty and the student body; to assist the principal in keeping order, wherever the principal assigns, and in its members to develop leadership, to encourage scholarship, to strengthen loyalty to the school. An efficient Student Council is an asset to a school. Coopera- tion among the faculty, councillors, and student body is essential for an effective council. The Student Council of 1962 hopes to leave to the school one of its best councils. 54 MARYSCRIPT MARYIU 1962 The Maryscript staff makes some decisions before the page proofs are sent to press. M. SISTER MARIE BONAVENTURE, O.P. Mathematics There is no better way of showing devotion to Mary than by the frequent recitation of the Rosary, the greatest of the Marian prayers. It is a devotion that never grows old. Mary will surely be the Mother of those who carry her Rosary and recite it frequently. The trig class enjoys a film on the practical essentials of trigonometry. J. Pro- cida shows how trig can aid us toward clear thinking and also its value as a prerequisite for the study of advanced mathematics and engineering. 65 J. Borger and C.
