J jackie Hipp and friend Jerry ACTIVITIES Spirit of the living God was emphasized by many activities of the staffers throughout the summer. Introducing this exciting phase of Glorieta was a colorful talent show in Holcomb Auditorium. Next the staffers donned their sweat shirts, blue jeans, and sturdy hiking shoes as they prepared for a western cookout. Still another week brought the coming of the powder-puff football game-this change of events was certainly a highlight in the minds of all, whether they were spectators or participants. The first six week's activities ended with a hootenanny and an exciting trip to the Santa Fe Rodeo. The last half of the assembly's activities began with an inspiring presentation of the play, Five Small Windows of Christmas , directed by Le lla Snider. The following week proved to be just as enjoyable as the Shakespearean staffers of Glorieta presented their hilarious version of Oklahamlet . Then came the Christmas in july party when the staff entertained wide-eyed, excited children of the Santa Fe Baptist Indian Mission. The Mexican touch was taken into Santa Fe for a delicious supper at La Cocina. One of the last parties enjoyed by staffers was the barbeque cookout held in the field below New Mexico Hall. The old Glorieta Chuck Wagon and western style clothes set the atmosphere for this event. As the staffers participated in these and other activities, they were always conscious of the presence of God in the midst of them. The staffers were in a true spirit of the living God as they listened in- tently to Mrs. Dickson's closing devotional. 75

That's the night that the I-Ierron Staffers produced the colorful Tal- ent Show in Holcomb Auditorium. The boistrous crowd echoed the success of each participant as he concluded his performance. Many interpretations of entertainment included Dan Bishop's ridiculous idea of the game of football. The Letters , a humorous reading, was done by Peggy Randall. joe Love, Marcia Hearn, and Lauren Holcomb enlightened the audience with Music and Laughter . A three-part skit of married life was vividly portrayed through the actions of Roberta Tamble and Richard Thomas. In addition, Jackie Hipp and his friend were the center of a riotous ventriloquist act. Cynthia McConathy articulately enounced the reading Sounds With Sense. A medley of song was presented by Carole Monroe, who was followed by Carlos Rodriguez' misty interpretation of Celito Lindo. Harris Coe delivered an original oration about His Family . In addition to all this, Clyde Ross played a beautiful arrangement of Last Date . As a grand conclusion to a wonderful evening, Claudia Stoker gave an impressive, dramatic reading of MAN WITHOUT A COUNTRY. june 17. . . The staff left New Mexico Hall in files of two. This enthusiastic group of three hundred was all smiles and laughter. Nothing could be as ex- citing as an hour hike through bushes and shrubs, and an informal cook- out in the valley beyond. Penny Sudberry, Saundra Luns- dum, Barbara Morgan, Elaine McKay, Charlotte Sutherland, and Marilyn Hatcher were responsible for the weiners and fixings that were enjoyed by everyone. Providing light en- tertainment, Marica Hearn, Clyde Ross, Lynn Simmons, and joe Jaime sang. Ken Barousse, guitar, and Tim Arwood, violin, were the able accompanists. As the evening drew nigh, Mrs. Dickson led the staffers in a highly inspirational devotional that centered around a brilliantly illuminated cross, high atop the peak of Lookout Mountain. A true spirit of a very real and living God reigned in the hearts and minds of all those privileged to attend. 74

POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL GAME One for the money, two for the--?? June 24. . . Surrounded by cheering fans the monstrous players approached their positions for the KICK-OFF of the annual Powder-Puff football game at six o'clock. The din became almost unbearable as the dainty cheerleaders led the rooters in precisioned yells. The coaches' fingernails became shorter and shorter as the folly progressed. ln an ecstasy of rage the refined yellsters displayed hostility among themselves, bringing everyone to the edge of their rocky ledges. Anticipation could be seen in the eyes of the crowd as the crowning of the new Powder-Puff Queen approached. The judges' decision was made even more difficult because the four finalists were undoubtedly the elite of the campus due to their poise and beauty. Patience wore thin, exhaustion prevailed and each player, coach, cheerleader, and fan knew beyond any doubt that they had shared in high-lighting the first six weeks at Glorieta. Cheerleaders for the Lilies of the Field were Representing the victorious Maulers were a stylish, enthusiastic and even rambunctious. figured group of lovelies.
