Glenn Holmes October 21, 1930-July 3, 1987 Under the guidance and direction of Glenn Holmes, The Glenwood School was founded in 1981 by a group of dedicated parents, staff, trustees, and friends. Her tragic death on July 3, 1987, which was caused by a drunken driver, aroused the indignation and anger of the Dallas Community. lt seems almost impossible that one whose life had been such a positive influence on literally hundreds should meet death in such a violent way. Glenn was dedicated to making this a better world for children. It was this mission that gave her the courage and stamina to undertake the founding of an independent, private, non-profit school. The Glenwood Difference espouses a phi- losophy that, while backed by volumes of re- search, is not in general use in schools across the country. ln addition to a soundly based instructional program, the school was dedi- cated to making its environment a warm, lov- ing, caring place for children and staff. It has become a place where healthy self-confidence and the development of a positive self- concept, through successful experiences, are fostered along with academic excellence. The students and activities in this yearbook represent the fulfillment of Glenn Holmes' vi- sion. We proudly dedicate this yearbook to her memory. At Glenwood I have learned so many things. Not only have I learned the basic skills in education, but I have also learned the great importance of friendship and companionship with one's teachers and classmates. Now that I am leaving Glenwood I must give credit where credit is due. When I first saw The Glenwood School campus I was skeptical. Then I met Mrs. Holmes and Dr. Hood-Hanchey at my interview. They both made me feel so comfortable and welcome that I knew I belonged at Glenwood. When the first day of school came along l felt a little awkward. I knew a few people, but one still feels uncomfortable on the first day at a new school. I did adjust though. By the end of the week, I felt like I had been a student at Glenwood since I was in kindergarten. All of the students and teachers made me feel at home and very normal. I sincerely want to thank all of my teachers for the best two years. They are warm loving people and they love what they do which is giving the students at Glenwood the best education possible and giving them all of the attention they need. Although my instructors were very important to my education at Glenwood, the staff and other faculty members must not be forgotten because without them the Glenwood family would be incomplete. With the recent death of our founding director Mrs. Holmes, I must personally thank Dr. Brownlee for the beautiful job she has done taking on all the responsibilities of director of The Glenwood School. I find Dr. Brownlee to be the most kind and loving person that I know. She has made my last year at Glenwood much more than delightful. I wish her continued success and good health as she does her best to carry on the dreams of our beloved Mrs. Holmes. Last but of course not least, I wish to thank my parents and family. They have given me much support through my entire education. As I go on to college, I know I can count on continued encouragement and support from my parents and family. I know that they will always believe in me no matter what I do and I owe it to them to always do my best. The Jaguars improved their 1 record from last year's 3-8-19 to this year's 10-3-1. This performance earned the '87 Jaguars first place in T.A.P.S. District 8. The team then went on to the regional playoffs to beat the St. John Crusaders 3-1. The T.A,P.S. state championships were held in Waco, with Glenwood losing the first game 3-1. John Foley scored the Jaguars' single goal against Northland Christian of Houston. The team waited for the next game and then played great. At the end of the game it was tied 2-2 with Glenwood and the Awty International School going into double overtime. Finally it ended Jaguars - 3, Lions - 2, with two goals by John Foley and one by Robby Moy. Because of their great performances, John Foley and Randall Hensley were named to the All Tournament Team. The season ended with the Jaguars 1st in their district, 1st in their region and 3rd in state. SOCCER 761 l 4 1 ,f 44 I?fNH z 4 ff . Q 1. M- , . .., ., f-V-. N . X , , 'R xx xl XA, ,.
