With part time jobs occupying so much time after school and well over half of the student body involved in school sports, who has time for homework? For many students homework is done during those precious few minutes between classes or when a teacher has finished the lecture and there is still ten minutes left in class. Some students finish that important history assignment between bites at lunch. But whether alone or with the help of another student, that all important assignment manages to get done. “1 get by with a little help from my friends” really identifies these pictures here. Some “friends” have the dubious honor of passing out grade cards. Others give new meaning to the term “locker life.” More than one student has caught a few z's before class begins. World affairs students and those in driver’s ed. are often found with the latest edition of Journal Register, scissors, paste, and a wearied expression. One thing is for sure — school is not dull. 7 7 v ► y O s' k sT r v v r Joe Kraus, Darren McMasters, and Hank Sherman were the first customers at Chatham's new Hardee’s. Michelle Copple’s house was a common party place during her parents absence. “Mom, I’m going to the library” is a common alibi for lots of GHS students. Why Clark Blade you ask? We think it is obvious. Have a layout question that no one can answer? Clark Blade knows. Have a problem thinking of a caption? Ask Clark Blade. Need a long story to soothe sore feelings. Clark Blade can tell one. Mr. Blade, we dedicate this yearbook to you for all of the patience you have shown, the good ideas you have given, and the positive attitude you have shared. Your hard work, caring attitude, and smile will always be 5uecin f wendy A vocational, agriculture, and science teacher for eleven years. Mr. Dan Leathers died during the summer before this school year began. Mr. Leathers was active in BCEA and worked for a better teaching environment. IT H APPENS to all of us throughout our lives, but the memory of a hectic four years, called high school, will always bring a smile, or a tear, or a blush to the class of ‘‘88’’. Whether you were an easy-lover, or just a spectator at the Gray and Stern belly-bucking contest, freshman year was a whole new experience. As sophomores, we became stronger in school’s social order. We would “boogie” at By George or get together for a KASM (Does anyone really know what it means?) mission. As sophomores, we readily found out that you can't win a TAG game if you don't have a driver’s license. As juniors we learned a lesson of humility as we begged and scrounged for enough money to have Prom. Dave Pletsch went sailing into the air over a pasture only to wipe out a cow when his car finally touched ground. The Glen — Echo was countered with that student operated Hotbed of Political Liberalism. The Free Press. We studied military strategy as we pounded our opposition in the semester's food fight. When Prom was over and the year about to an end, we partied it out out at the megaparty of all time (Who's house was that?) The new Assasination game heated up as Kent Gray chased Brad Clayton through his father’s cornfield in Chris Currie’s RX7 going at least 80 m.p.h. Senior year started with the double-dating sta (Hurry up, 1 gotta go!). Big Red was named the gum of the 1987 Homecoming court and MegaJ H got cancelled by some uninvited guests. Mine Conlon and crew had a difficult time keeping u ) with a T-Bird that was driving on R All ROAD TRACKS. Homecoming exploded at Glenwood once again. Although attendance was down from last year, the spirit from those present kicked off the night. Homecoming '87 will be remembered for the never-ending sounds of Dad’s Big Weekend, and the Wall. Traci Reazer took the theme literally and arrived “Comfortably Numb.” Chuck Schrage and Pam Copple, the reigning King and Queen were unable to attend. So, Joe Conlon and Evelyn Krueger Tilled in to crown the new royalty. Bruce Binstadt Homecoming ’87 and Tammy Flowers were crowned King and Queen of Homecoming ’87. Homecoming — Quincy Notre Dame — vs. — Glen wood 181 Prom As one approached the double ballroom of the Springfield Hilton the power of youthful piquancy could be seen pouring out of the door. Prom had been anticipated for months — the halls were perforated with prattle of posies and penoirs. Finally the night had arrived — the ballroom was decorated perfectly, and the partiers were preened, primped and polished — prepared to parade past piles of people. Night Flight provided procussion for pendulous dancers. The pinnacle of the evening was the passing of the princely procession, posing for precious portraits and the coronation. You can be the master Of your destiny Leave yesterday’s footprints behind you And choose where today’s lead. Follow a rainbow, reach for a star, Put them in your pocket and you’ll go far. Never let your dreams die. Don't tell yourself a lie. You can make it, don’t you fake it, TRY! — Author Unknown © O © ❖ •© I hope this yearbook captures the events of a year-long celebration. And with that, the memories will come pouring out every time it is opened. I, along with every member of the yearbook staff, put long hours into its publication. I was a little nervous at first with a new advisor, but once she learned the ropes she had more confidence in herself and we got along better. That's not to say that we didn’t get into any arguments, though. We found that arguments can be healthy and luckily compromise was always the result. Despite all the pressures of deadlines and homework at the same time, I enjoyed being editor-in-chief my junior year. I’m really looking forward to being co-editor with Alyce Sherbenou next year. The 1987-88 Spyglass has now come to a close and that is the real CELEBRATION for me. 4 GD w □ v £7 4 Mario Saputo £7 c O v° ? o e Q O O 236 o OSTENf
