However, they courageously fought drowsiness. The overconfident Freshmen bounded into Glenwood anticipating successful high school years. Sophomores returned with a greater sense of belonging. Envious of their Seniors peers, Juniors looked forward to the year when they would take over the ruling crown. As for the Seniors, they DOMINATED!!! Amy Gooding says. Swing into the new year! California Girls??? Kevin Small and Mark Mason hold onto high school memories Melissa Smith and Angela Shields happily await another day of classes. On their side, the football players sweated through numerous and grueling practices to prepare for the exciting season ahead. The student body's long, drawn-out battle for the return of Homecoming activities finally paid off. Hall decorations, car caravans, and the bonfire were once again added to the agenda of Homecoming Week Activities. All the classes pulled together to creatively decorate the halls and support the team. Everyone met in the parking lot to decorate their cars and to join in the caravan which trudged through the metropolis of Chatham. Avid football fans encircled the massive bonfire to heat up their Redskin spirit for the hair-raising game. And as a conclusion to the eventful week, students put on their dancing shoes and took in the music of Sky High. Dana McNeely and Michel Stern enjoy each others company at a football game. The Reese Team begins the freshman executions. Gidget says. ‘Surfs Up! — Jackie Aulich A Rose by any other name would not be as sweet. Chris Rake, don't worry. Thanksgiving break is just around the corner! 7 Dedica tion You have supported Glenwood since your High School days. You are a respected member of the faculty. You are always nearby to help with a problem, fill out college applications, or give a reassuring smile. Your interests lie in helping the students. Your care for teens and their problems was expressed even more when you helped develop Citizens Who Care. As baseball coach you have taught the guys that having fun is what counts. Norm Smith. Counselor Norm Smith as a sophomore at Glenwood For your Kindness . Helping Hand .. Sympathy ... Friendship .. . Caring . We dedicate this yearbook to you. 8 Freshmen . . . New teachers, new rooms, new classes, and a different building caught many freshmen by surprise But soon they “learned the ropes. They quickly learned that 113 English is not that easy, that late for class will get you a tardy, and that you don’t mess with seniors!!! The unending school spirit and the drive for success paved the road for future classes. Our freshman year ivas spent petrified, hiding in the halls. As the years progressed, we developed a courageous and confident attitude and spent more time strutting in the halls. We conquered the sadness and rejection of losing someone close, though these hard times we were only brought closer together. What has developed is a special bond that can never be broken. No obstacle has been too great for the “Class of '85. When icicles formed on our pineapples, we held our beach party inside with insulated underwear under our grass skirts. Finally, after three years of war, we got to decorate the hallways and plan festivities for homecoming. We've made this a year to remember. In procrastination, serious partying, and freshmen initiation, we have forever stamped our mark. And so to you — The Class of '85 — may the party never end. And always remember — “Sometimes ya' just gotta say ...! “Raise your hand if you're Sure. Once again the Redskins were known for their willingness to fly around and hit people. Early in the year the Skins felt the effects of learning a new system. Key mistakes at critical times caused the Redskins to get off to a 1-4 start. During the second season the Redskins made things happen and finished by winning three of the last four games. This year's record of 4-5 was a great improvement over the previous season of 1-8 record. Many of the losses were heart-breakers. Four of the five losses were by scores of less than one touchdown. The Spyglass got off to a stow start because of a change in yearbook advisor. As a result, yearbook did not get organized until September. The editors were selected, staff organized, photography assignments given, and ladders prepared as a basis for the rest of the book. The theme, centered around the calender, was selected, and soon the yearbook started to take shape. The staff took the day off from school to attend a day long seminar on How To Create A Yearbook. Color deadline was met in November. Ad sales took place in October and November. The Yearbook went on sate on Valentine's Day. When the sale was complete, nearly 600 students had purchased a yearbook. By operating in the black, the staff was able to send two students to yearbook camp. NEW BEGINNINGS Katie Brown receives her diploma from Jack Neuman JENNIFER NELLESSEN — VALEDICTORIAN Congratulations to the Class of '85 The diplomas that we receive tonight can in no way signify the extent of the pride and achievement we all sense We have finished what some might call a chapter in the book of life The many pages we have filled at Glenwood High School have been unforgettable. We have endured the worst, the loss of a teacher and close friends, and we enjoyed the best, last fall's spectacular soccer team and season, our many celebrations such as New Year's Eve and our Senior Prom . and finally tonight tonight should not be considered the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a new one Our graduation signifies that we have received an educational foundation upon which we were placed the responsibility to build Belief is the rock we use to shatter the walls the Class of 1985 has this rock of belief when we get knocked down, we look for something to pick us back up Belief and fearlessness are unbreakable, shakable securities that pave the way to success. Life is like a candle — we can use ourselves up by spending ourselves in the service of others, making their pathway a little brighter .. or we can think of ourselves like the unlighted candle we would go through life unnoticed, unappreciated, and unhappy We should all be smiling, because as the class of 1985 leaves Glenwood High School tonight, it is not a candle that flickers, it is a fire that blazes. (portion of Valedictory speech delivered by Jennifer Nellessen.) Jackie Aulich smiles as she receives her “sheepskin. 153 Mr. Cool once again demands everyone’s attention. Below — Scott Satterlee adjusts his cap before the processional. Wendy Miller — Salutatorian The movement and encouragement behind the student should be addressed school and extracurricular activities consumed much time and patience from you as we grew older we became increasingly independent Parents, you took us in your arms and consoled us despite the accusations of un airness and uncaring will we truty be able to do for our children what we have come to expect from you? with the encouragement and hardworking attitudes you have shown us. we have reached a milestone in our lives for this we extend our warm thanks to our mom and our dad and any teachers who became friends we could never repay our debt to you as immeasurable and impossible as it is let our achievements stand as a testament, a trophy to the excellence of your work The Class of ’85 cheers as Randy Anders receives his diploma. Stephanie Brinker — Salutatorian Parents, you should be proud, not only of your son or daughter, but also of yourselves You have developed your child into a young adult who is well prepared to face the new world that awaits him the developing and growing can be thought of as a rainbow Bach color band represents the special characteristics of a parent Red represents provision and protection discipline is represented by orange yellow represents guidance green is patience and encouragement blue stands for caring and understanding violet represents love, for without love all the previous qualities could not exist The pot of gold represents this special night Mom and Dad. thanks for helping us form our rainbow Angie Goral and Diana Landers capture the dreams of many graduates with Starmaker. ” a song from Fame.
