CLASS HISTORY Since our high school years have come to a close, we often think back over all the good times we enjoyed. We entered the classrooms of Glenwood as freshmen in 1966 with an enrollment of 133 and had 122 graduating, the largest graduating class in Glenwood's history. Early in our freshman year, we elected David Warrington, president; Linda Davis, vice-president; Linda Gibson, secretary; and Kathy Dodge, treasurer. Our first Student Council representatives were Chris McCall, Susan Roberts, Beverly Schroll, and David Warrington. During our sophomore year, we elected Susan Roberts, president; Darcy Cooper, vice-president; Linda Gibson, secretary; and David Duke, treasurer. Our Student Council representatives were Diane Anderson, Alan Kelly, Chris McCall, and Susan Roberts. Experiencing our first Homecoming, Rhapsody In Blue”, the class chose Darcy Cooper and David Duke to the court. We sold sweatshirts as a money raising project for the Prom. We began our junior year by electing David McWherter, president; Diane Anderson, vice-president; Chris McCall, secretary; David Duke, treasurer. Our representatives to Student Council were Diane Anderson, Patty Burtle, Chris McCall, and Susan Roberts. Our representatives to the Homecoming, “Revolution,” were Jim Kennel and Linda Davis and Dave Warrington and Linda Gibson. That year, working toward the prom, we sold magazines and held candy sales at basketball games. Finally, after months of hard work on May 16, 1969, we presented “Coronation Ball” at the Leland Hotel, with the “Spoils of War” from Champaign providing the music. Master of Ceremonies for the event was David McWherter, and the bid poem was written by Rick Jones. The coronation of King John Kerska and Queen Karla Gathard highlighted the evening. Our senior class sponsors were Mrs. Guinan, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Pratt, Mr. Domanowski, and Miss Walch. Finally our senior year came, and we joyously welcomed Annbjorg (Ann) Lyng to Glenwood. Congratulations must go to the GHS AFS chapter for sponsoring a foreign exchange student from Norway, who adds so much to our student body. In the beginning of the senior year, we elected David Warrington, president; David McWherter, vice-president; Linda Gibson, secretary; and Chris McCall, treasurer. The class elected LindaGibson, Alan Kelly, Ann Lyng, Kim Murphy, and Susan Roberts to be student council representatives. The first semester was highlighted by the 1969 Homecoming, “Dawn of Creation,” sponsored by the Student Council. Darcy Cooper was crowned Queen, and Dave Warrington was King. Lance Charlson was chosen the first Mr. Redskin. Linda Davis was Queen of the FHA's “Sweetheart Dance.” The Junior-Senior Prom was held May 16, 1970, at the Teamster’s Union Hall. Susan Roberts escorted by David Warrington was crowned Queen. Members of the court were Linda Davis, first attendant escorted by Duane Muchow; Linda Gibson, second attendant escorted by Ron Stone; Kay Anderson escorted by Jim Kennel; and Darcy Cooper escorted by David Duke. Now that we are graduated, every person will always remember some particular event not always related to the class as a whole - for example, the paper wad fights in Biology II; the lab experiences of Mr. Brown and his students; “the Dirty Dozen;” and composition journals. We will remember national events that took place during our high school years: man’s first landing on the moon; the political assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Bobby Kennedy; the Chicago Convention; and the Richard Speck murders. Though the world was not so happy, Glenwood was. Glenwood gave us joy, frustration, hope, responsibility, and a friendship that we shall never forget. Most important of all is that it has given us an education. We are thankful for the knowledge we have received. So long, beautiful Glenwood, may YOU live forever! 29
