L.. gpm to walk Wh1le walklng down the street we not1ced a myster1ous lookmg person 1n blue dragg1ng a man 1n one hand and a club 1n the other And who should xt be but Janlce McDan1e1s 1n a pol1cewoman's unlform She had Just arrested Walterlmes for Jaywalkmg She let us understand that lt was Walter s second offence or she would not have been so severe Upon leavlng Jan1ce we not1ced acloud of smoke dr1ft1ng down the Street We were curlous so we stayed to see what lt was When the smoke cleared there stood our old frlend and compan1on Weed em more Weddmgton ow the owner of K1ng Wayne world famous c1gar Company Around the corner was the off1ce of the New Boston T1mes World s largest newspaper whxch was run by Charles Martln He got h1s start way back 1n 1951 as a newsboy for the Portsmouth T1mes Upon leav1ng the off1ce we were attacked and lassoed by a bunch of redheaded hoodlums We called for help and who was to come but thezr Aunt June May We talked to June and found out that she had gxven up her college career to be a housew1fe When we fmally left June s house or should we say escaped the f1rst people we ran mto were Bob Adams and Russell McManus who were push1ng two baby carrlages down the street Bob and Mac told us they had settled down and were marr1ed after they graduated Golng down the street we came upon a large super market wh1ch had just been con structed We enteredto f1nd Ralph Campbell manager It was an1ce after noon so we dec1ded to go to the races and who was dr1v1ng a rac1ng car but Gerald Cornwell who had been speedxng s1nce he got h1s motor b1ke back 1n 1951 We dec1ded to have our p1ctures taken and who do you thmk was the photographer? You guessed It Don Dan1els F1ve hours later they were f1n1shed and as we were leav1ng who should be enter1ng but Bern1ce Dotson Bermce had been work1ng for Don as a model Farther up the street we saw a strange lookmgsxght a couple were hold1ng hands beh1nd a telephone pole It was Beatrlce Sm1th and Bob F1nney Beatrlce mformed us Bessle Floyd had settled down and found a true love We stopped at the Oh1o Theatre to f1nd that Janet McDan1el now owned IE and Jerry Lew1s was sellmg popcorn Janet told us that Joyce Gr1ff1n was now runn1ng a school for speech and was dO1ng very well Janet Schwable and Phyllxs Redwzne were her pr1ze pup1ls Barbara Jennmgs was Joyce s assxstant It was a very hot day so we dec1ded to stop at the daxry bar for 1ce cream and found Wanda Weaver, now Mrs Douglas Arthurs putt1ng up a new s1gn for Paul Porter who was now operatlng the dalry bar Paul told us that George Staten was 1n M1ch1gan gett1ng h1s new tags for h1s car and Kelly Phlpps was manager of the Restaurants for the New Boston branch ofU S Steel Our furlough belng over we left toreturn to France for our next ass1gnment wlth the Forelgn Leglon Don Bowl1ng Elmo Buckle Q, , iiI'.lMF'l 7 f 3' my ' v , - - n vu , . . CLHSS PHUPHECU On our f1rst furlough 1n twenty years we dec1ded to v1s1t our old home town of New Boston Noth1ng much had changed except that New Boston was now capxtal of the Un1ted States Th1s be1ng the case we thought we would V1S1t the Un1V6TS1tY ofGlenwood whxch of course was located next to the Wh1te House We entered the UH1VerS1ty and went to the Off1CC and found that Marv1n Marlowe had succeeded Mr Hall after he had RETIRED' W1lma Ph1ll1ps was teachxng government W1lma always d1d l1ke govern ment After our long walk we were very th1rsty We stopped at Joe s wh1ch was now a successfulmght club under the propr1etorsh1p of Elsxe Bartlett We were not 1n the least surprlsed 1H talkuig to ElS1C to fxnd that Norma Thacker now owned the 'T1ger Den We dropped 1n to f1nd Paul Wr1ght rack1ng balls After talk1ng to Paul for about 30 mmutes we dec1ded to be on our way After walkmg down the streeta few blocks w we found Don Holbrook stand1ng on a soap box g1v1ng a pol1t1cal speech He was runnxng for Un1ted States Senator It was then that Don told us that New Boston had won the State Basketball champ1onsh1p for the last two years under the coachlng of Sam Sh1ngler We thought we would go see Sam At f1rst we d1dn't recognlze h1m because he had changed so much Dur1ng h1s 10 years of pro basketball he had grown to 8 feet 6 1nches tall and wore sxze 15 shoe Sam sa1d that he would chauffeur us around town When we had gone about 5 m1les we had a flat so we had to pull xnto the nearest stat1on wh1ch happened to be a Texaco and guess who owned 1t'? You guessed It George F1tch George was now the owner of a large cha1n of Texaco stat1ons We understand he got h1s start on the corner of Gall1a and Harr1sonv1lle way back mn 1951 Whxle we were havlng our flat f1xed George adv1sed us to take a cab because he was busy We called the Chevrolet Cab Co whxch was owned by Dave Semones Dave took us to the a1rport where the f1rst rocketsh1p to reach the moon had Just returned Dave 1nformed us that one of our old classmates had perfected the formula for the fuel necessary to get the rocketsh1p there It was none other than Professor C B Hunter Charles was as modest as usual over the tr1p wh1ch had made h1m famous and he even gave us hls autograph' We understood that Charles and one other of our Classmates were the fmrst ones to set foot on the moon Of course th1s had to be the adventurous type so we know 1mmed1ately who xt was Wanada Green! We asked to see the pllot and rt was not to our surpr1se to fxnd Bud M1115 st1ll as b1g a daredevll as ever Dave told us that a well known beaut1c1an was 1n town for the next few days who was g1v1ng lessons to glrls on how to f1x thelr ha1r properly It was run by none other than Phyll1s Huffman It was Dave s lunch hour so we dec1ded 71 .W V' 1 .ff'Qi' .Q-1-2'-. 11-' , ' I - I I .
