The study of mathematics is like climbing up a steep and craggy mountain; when once you reach the top, it fully recompenses your trouble, by open- ing a fine, clear, and extensive prospect. Tryon Edwards Mathematics, the sci- ence of quantities and magnitudes, is taught by discussion and actual prob- lem solving. Mathe- matics courses develop the student ' s ability to reason and help him to acquire the fundamental skills for which there is a demand in our society.
