Dedicated teachers and modern equipment assure each student the opportunity for high achievement and quality education. 9f There are five tests of the evidence of education - correctness and precision in the use of the mother tongue; refined and gentle manners, the result of fixed habits of thought and action; sound standards of appreciation of beauty and worth, and a character based on those standards; power and habit of reflection; efficiency or the power to do. Nicholas Murray Butler A taste of every sort of knowledge is necessary to form the mind, and is the only way to give the understanding its due im- provement to the full extent of its capacity. Locke CUtcC mi STEPS TO $UCOE$$ 4ctcvctCe4- StcccCe ttA ‘putccie Science is but the statement of truth found out. The growing emphasis in the field of science has been the result of the in- creasing importance of science in our society. The Science Department tries not only to interest students in the fields of science but also to help them to understand the world in which they live. The study of mathematics is like climbing up a steep and craggy mountain; when once you reach the top, it fully recompenses your trouble, by open- ing a fine, clear, and extensive prospect. Tryon Edwards Mathematics, the sci- ence of quantities and magnitudes, is taught by discussion and actual prob- lem solving. Mathe- matics courses develop the student ' s ability to reason and help him to acquire the fundamental skills for which there is a demand in our society. Home is the seminary of all other institutions. E. H. Chapin Home economics classes are very practical, as well as educational. They help to prepare students for careers in home management. Agriculture is the foundation of manufactures, since the productions of nature are the materials of art. Vocational Agriculture is designed for those interested in either the production phase or the many other occupations related to agriculture. Through group and individual projects training is given for useful citizen- ship and civic responsibility in a rural society. This page sponsored by SEALTEST DAIRY PRODUCE - MARION MACHINE CO. Health is the vital principle of bliss; and exercise, of health. Thomson Physical fitness is stressed in the athletic program. Students take physical fitness tests at the beginning of the year and again at the end of the year to measure their progress. A course in health and physical education is required of all ninth grade students. S xccaCCef. Good manners are the out- expression of an inner respect for other people and pleasure in their company, Nothing is more essential to a complete education than social maturity. School ac- tivities afford the student abundant means of learning social graces that contribute to a more successful life. It is an honor to pay tribute to one who has become a genuine part of Glen- wood School. Her interest in the stu- dents and her loyalty and devotion to duty have endeared her to all who have come under her influence. Because her guidance and understand- ing during our early years of school have earned a place of highest esteem in our hearts, we the Senior Class, dedicate this nineteen hundred sixty-four edition of the Nushka to Mrs. Ruth Hawkins. . . . the temple the teacher builded shall en- dure while the ages roll; for that beautiful, un- seen temple was a child ' s immortal soul. IP.I. i. 0( cc€n4, The two main projects of the P.T. A. are sponsoring the school band and the summer recreation program. Officers of the P.T. A. are Jimmy Lawing, president (not pictured); Mrs. Gene Smith, vice-president; Mrs. Bryan Geouge, secretary; and Mrs. Ruth Hawkins, treasurer. The Alumni Association meets biennially. Their most outstanding project is sponsoring a scholarship fund for worthy Glenwood graduates who wish to continue their education. Serving as officers of the Alumni Association are Miss Charline Hemphill, secretary; Mrs. Patricia Greer, treasurer; Ray Dean Arrowood, vice-president; Mrs. Willette Lawing, corresponding secretary and Leroy Suttles, president. The fifty-three members of the Senior Class (twenty-four girls and twenty-nine boys) have found this year to be perhaps one of the busiest and most enjoyable of their high school years. In addition to the regular class- room work, the Senior Class have participated in many co-curricular activi- ties including publishing the school paper and yearbook, taking an active part in varsity basketball and baseball, and serving in many of the school clubs. Truly the Class of ' 64 has found some meaning to their class motto by living their school years fully, laughing often, and loving much. MOTTO He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much. FLOWER White Rose COLORS White and Gold MRS. DORA B. When we were Freshmen, little we knew Of the joys that would be ours, ' Till as Sophomores we came to view Some values of the precious hours. Our year as Juniors, we well recall, Brought us nearer to the goal; To emerge as Seniors in the fall Was the yearning of each soul. Here we are - the Class of ' 64. Graduation draws ever nigh.
