Cuvviculum af Qlenwood I 1 1 ...familiar [aces 12 vemind us of friendships we nevev jovgetl We VedicAte ' Tis the human touch in this world that counts. This adage is especially applicable in analyzing the worth of a teacher. The teacher with a human touch has ears to hear the questions of an inquiring student; he has sympathetic insight into problems great or small; he has patience, never-ending; he has vision to feel the needs of a student and to see his view; and most of all, he can laugh with his students and yet not lose his touch of dignity. We, the senior class, have strongly felt the human touch of two outstanding members of our faculty. In recognition of their warmth of personalities and their many intangible services to us, and . . . because so few speak for so many, this nineteen hundred sixty edition of the NUSHKA is dedicated to Mr. Clyde Day and Mr. Raymond Ledbetter. .1 AdministvAtion evs SUPERINTENDENT Melvin H. Home of the strong, brave, and true. We ' ll shout afar our tribute loud and strong That those who love wisdom may hear; We ' ll tell the story to the learned throng Of sons and daughters without fear. As our Alma Mater our lives enfold, Our voices will raise in praise; We ' ll ever be true to the maroon and gold; Thee we ' ll cherish throughout our days. As the class of ' 60 leaves these halls, Shed no tears of sad farewell; We feel secure that what ' er befalls, Our Alma Mater has taught us well. So dear teachers and classmates, one and all, We bid you all a fond adieu; Each time that we hear duty call. We can answer well because of you. We began the year by electing as our officers four capable students. They led the class very effec- tively. Members of our class were well represented in the Christmas Parade --two queens and two cheer- leaders. They also excel in playing on the basket- teams. In the classroom we delved further into the mys- teries of Algebra and French. We were introduced for the first time to Tillie Tapeworm and Freddie Frog. Now we look forward to another year of accom- plishment. Glenwood High School, which stands on a campus cover - ing eighty-six acres of land, has, in the past year, improved tremendously. Through generous donations by our P.T.A. the playground has been enlarged and portions of it asphalted. In all, the P.T.A. has donated $1,500 in the past year and will donate $1,000 more for playground improve- ment. At the present time, Glenwood has the largest enrollment of any other McDowell County school, and with more stu- dents enrolling each year, more classrooms and teachers are going to be needed. Weare very proud of such a fine and beautiful school, and we sincerely hope that in years to come Glenwood High School will become even finer and more beautiful. 4, t1 Shirley Creech Dennis Fortune Wayne Franklin Dean Gallion Virginia Gardner Rita Guffey Mary Hawkins Gayle Houck Ted H unt Katrina Jackson Patsy Kelly Bobby Koone Harley Lane Eula Lawing Jearlene Lawing Peggy Lawing Kay Ledbetter Lois Ledbetter Linda Marlowe Steve Marlowe i V,: V- 60 61 Seveniii QvAde Delores Anderson Alice Arrowood Michael Arrowood Syble Atchley Ann Bare Jerry Barlowe Phyllis Barnes Carroll Baynard Margaret Bledsoe Michael Bowen Margaret Bradley Judy Bright Ann Brookshire Gale Brown Ina Buchanan Malinda Burgin Gary Byrd Charles Cable Norma Cable Wilma Cable Keith Cannon Larry Carver Douglas Cauthen Carl Christopher James Clark Danny Cogdill Arthur Cox Gary Creech Carolyn Davis Billy Dover Sevenifi QvAde Billy Dowdle Brenda Duncan Harold Elliott Sherry Flack Neil Franklin Roger Franklin Sandra Freeman Kenneth Frisbee Ray Gardner Patsy Gragg Linda Grant Ruby Grindstaff Eddie Hawkins Gail Haynes Rachel Hensley Eric Hilton Bobby Holland Harry Holland Jerry Hollifield Mary Helen Hollifield Walter Howard Donna Jones Kathy Kelley Karen Laney Sandra Laughridge Barbara Lee Lawing Barbara Lawing Billy Lawing Joe Lawing Wade Ledford Seventd Wallace Ledford Glenda Morgan Diane Morrow Marvin Mosteller Shirley Nelson David Owens Jimmy Parker Donald Penley Brenda Poteat Phil Poteat Bobby Proctor Mary Lou Radford Dan Rash Charles Rector Annie Mae Reel Jerry Reel Eugene Rhom Jimmy Rhom Carroll Ricker Rebecca Simpson Billy Smith Mike Smith Jimmy Tranthem Mary Ann Vallini Betty Ward David Webb Shirley Wilkerson Lloyd Yates Robert Bartlett Susan Condrey Sixtd Grade David Aldridge Joan Anderson Norman Arrowood Roger Arrowood Floyd Bailey Jolly Bailey Paul Barnes Penny Benge Larry Bledsoe Linda Bledsoe Freddie Bowman Ricky Bowman Timmy Buchanan Patricia Caldwell Juanita Carver Margaret Clark Lynn Clarke Charles Collins Roger Conner Gerald Conner Brenda Evans Linda Finley Georgia Gardner Glenda Garland Mary Goins Sixtd Qv de ! In addition to aiding teachers in classroom activities and serving as substitutes when teachers attend prorossional meetings, the Future Teachers also serve in Pre-school Clinics, plan and participate in activities for American Education Week, welcome and entertain new teachers, and act as hostesses for professional meetings at school. 3utuve eAcdevs Oj America First Row, Left to Right: Margaret Young, Martha Rhom, Third Row: Edna Hunter, Blonnie Gilliam, Lois Arrowood, Lorraine Hawkins, Janice Rumfelt, Irene Hall, Priscilla Extine. The Glenwood Key Club members strive to initiate projects which will challenge them to carry out their pledge in every way possible. Since the members are selected on the basis of potential leadership, ability, and scholarship achievements, the Key Club is one of the most active in the school. Two of the most outstanding projects accomplished this year were the Talent Show and Operation Santa Claus. The Girls ' Ensemble, winner in the school talent show, was first-place winner in the annual Kiwanis Club Talent Show. Operation Santa Claus , in which the members repaired and distributed toys to under- privileged children at Christmas, was a very successful undertaking. This year we have a very capable staff of school bus drivers whose main objective is the safety of every student. Proceeds from these campaigns are used for buying uniforms, warm-up pants, and necessary supplies.
