KZJQW ymwwygww fb-WL4, df-4,0 fffff Glenwood High School Canton, Ohio 1958 l 2 Glenwood High School, which opened its doors to students for the first time last fall, was constructed by the Melbourne Construction Company located at 5520 Cleveland Avenue North. The faculty and student body have enjoyed their activities in this beautiful building, and will continue to do so in the future. In September shining glass doors and smooth polished desks waited within this giant structure designated as a place of learning. Not until these doors were opened and the desks filled with students did this building become Glenwood High School. At that moment the spirit of Glenwood was created and began to grow. We who must leave here so soon dedicate this book to more than a building of stone and mortar which time will destroy. We dedicate it to that ever-growing spirit, to the helping hand of a teacher, to classmates, friends, memories, and to those who come after us. THE SENIOR CLASS or 1958 PEOPLE . ACTIVITIES Of Glenwood there are happy thoughts We have our sad ones too. But this first year at Glenwood Has found us true to Red and Blue. Many times in future years, XVe'll remember so very clear, All of the wonderful people we met And the friendships we held so dear. PEOPLE BOARD OE EDUCATION DRAGE DR. R. G. B.S. in Ed. Soon the school was cov- ered with posters advertising a pop bottle drive and the student body was invaded by magazine subscription sales- men. The class reached its financial goal and the super-selling boys were partied by the less-ambitious girls. People like Eleanor Swartz, F.H.A. president, Duane Warner, officer in the State Student Library Association, and the many others who took part in every- thing from speech to cheerleading have proven this to be a good junior class, ready and willing to lead the school as seniors next year. This enthusiasm spread into the junior varsity, the Sophomore Tri-Hi-Y, intramurals, speech, and music, where the sophomores have piled up an admir- able list of honors. Determination and many hours of hard but enjoyable work led to the first annual Autumn Festival of Song. The audience was delighted not only with the variety and quality of the music, but with the beautiful robes paid for from the proceeds of the ,concert. Recordings of Christmas music by the chorus were broadcast over two local radio stations on December 21 and 24. February 22 saw our choir taking part in the Stark County Music Festival. Finally, the entire student body was inspired by the beautiful choruses sung at the Easter chapel. Mr Hamilton, vocal director The ingredients which go into the making of fine music are, first, a pleasant song, then a good director, and, finally, a group of people who love to sing. Glenwood was especially lucky this year because the girls' chorus had all of these requirements. The girls exhibited their lovely harmony in the Autumn Festival of Song and again in the Christmas recordings heard over the radio. The girls' ensemble gained a great deal of experience for the county vocal music contest by singing for various club meetings throughout the area. All these girls have found that chorus is more than just hard work . . . it is fun and enjoyment of the truly beautiful things in life. vfliiifiif llffNil5Heil!35iiiifWlifiliZ..i?3TL3fl'r3394i?56i5v S397r15?!viE'iisea. i?H1isf'L :?l:53:EiSL9?i'iQ?'WE5i36Lf:?i? A Date With jucljf' On February 26 and 27, when A Date with Judy appeared before two great audiences, there were many more problems than just hoping that they wouldn't forget their lines. The backstage crew had to see that no one acciden- tally rested an arm on the switchboard and suddenly plunged the stage into dark- ness, and also had to see that the telephone and doorbells didnyt get mixed up and that they did ring! Props had to be in place, and makeup skillfully applied. The thousand and one details had to be exactly right, and, thanks to these people, they were. Oogie fGreg Binusj Judy Uoyce Boordj The star of A Date with Judy is, of course, Judy, a sixteen-and-a-half-year old who has the most fantastic imagina- tion in the world. Her goal is to win a contest of soliciting the most subscrip- tions for the Charity Bazaar. The win- ner will be queen of the Charity Ball. Instead of just going out to get the con- tributions, she dreams up a lot of fan- tastic schemes which result in near catas- trophe. When her arch-rival, Tootsie Whiteman, wins over Judy, the world almost comes to an end. Tootsie, how- ever, comes down with a case of hives on the night of the dance and Judy becomes queen. The crisis is over but, probably, will never be forgotten. C ast Left to right: Pam Croasdaile, Joyce Boord, Harriet Goldsmith, Helen Holibaugh, Steve Schmidt, John Sparks, Steve Daiger. You can squawk to your family, your neighbors, the boys at the shop, or your barber-anyone who'll listen. Or you can praise your government. But your squawks and praise won't pay off unless you deposit them in the ballot box. The right to a secret ballot gives you an actual voice in your government. By casting your ballot at election time, you can help decide who is going to run the show. It's not like this in every country. Behind the Iron Curtain there's a lot to squawk about. But people have to keep it to themselves. If you com- plain out loud, you may get a one-way ticket to Siberia. At election time you may get a ballot, but therelll only be one person to vote for. But in America you can choose. And choosing means that you've got to do some serious thinking to make sure you vote for the right man. The secret ballot is a right you don't exercise every day. But the fact that elections are not daily occurences makes the right all the more important. And the guy who fails to vote has lost the right to squawk. Think it over-and then make sure you vote. It's your rightg so treat it right. TRADE-MARK REG. U. S. PAT. OFF. The Timken Roller Bearing Company The right to work shall not be abridged nor made impotent 21 DO YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHTS ?
