BOY’S STATE The purpose of Buckeye Boy’s State is to educate students on how the government functions. Representing GlenOak in the mock government held at Bowl- ing Green University were Dave Hart, Mike Depasquale, Mike Cox, and Doug Hart. GIRLS STATE CENTURY III The purpose of Girl’s State is to educate students as to how the government functions. Representing GlenOak in the mock gov- ernment held at Ashland College were Melanie Reti, Diane Betz, and Sarah Howes. Danielle Carrier was chosen as GlenOak’s winner of the Century ill Leaders Competition. Danielle was chosen on the basis of leader ability, community involvement and knowledge of current events. WASHINGTON WORKSHOP Dave Hart, Dave Nardecchia, and Doug Hart attended the Washing- ton Workshop Congressional Seminar this year. The week long program of students across the na- tion gives each participant the opportunity to meet legislators, ambassadors, and presidential advisors, through various semi- nars held in the capital.

CONGRESSIONAL COUNCIL These students were chosen to represent GlenOak on Congressman Ralph Regula’s Student Congressional Council. These members are: (left to right) Jon Stuckey, Danielle Carrier, Susan Ott, Geri Lawrence, Andrea Knox, Dana Gam- mill, Dave Wirshing, Doug Hart, Dave Wackerly, Dave Hart, and Dave Nardec- chia. EXCHANGE STUDENTS GlenOak hosted exchange students this year from various countries around the world. Among the exchange students were: Marcos Jacinto from Brazil, Christian Hansen from Denmark, Johan Wetterholm from Sweden, Toshiyuki Shinbori from Japan, and Janelle Marriott from Australia. Erich Zelmer, Kathy Branch and Michelle Fomich were also com- mended on their National Merit test scores. Jeff Baum Gymnast Jeff was 5th in the state in boys gymnastics both his sophomore and junior years. His senior year he was 3rd in the districts, winning the rings. He finished 4th in the state all round and at state he was 5th in parallel bars, 3rd in pommel horse, and 2nd in the rings. NATIONAL MERIT Bill Ebie and Diane Betz were named National Merit Commended Scholars. The competition is based on scores from the PSAT NMSQT test given to students across the country their 241 junior year.
