SAGA OF SENIORS OF SIXTY Once in the dear, dead days we would forget, When we were Freshies, greenest ever met! Truly we were green that first summer we arrived on campus and if we forgot just how green we really were, we had but to glance at our perky little green paper cap and we were reminded of our not too elevated status. When we looked at it we were also reminded of the wonderful Sanitarium Family picnic we attended when we received the caps-a gift from the Juniors. That first summer was a busy one with classes occupying almost the entire day and study at night. Happy we were when the last of September we were capped with white caps, marking the first lap of our journey. Shortly after capping we officially organ- ized as a class and elected Lola Purdy, president, Beverly Comstock, vice-presi ent, Betty Carol Dunn, secretary, Marilyn Lucas, treasurer, janet Matthews, parlimen- tarian, and Mrs. Hazel Galliano, sponsor. During that year we took time out to visit the Farmers' Market in Los Angeles, have a waffle supper at Pat's home, and have a fun-filled beach party. Our annual Christmas party was also a real success planned by our Girl's club oflicers, Carol Lorenz Benton, presidentg and Barbara Borris, vice-president. To conclude this year, Mrs. Galliano invited us to a delightful supper at her home. juniors now, this trusty band, Continued on to Knowledge land. April 1959 swiftly moved upon us and we were Juniors. At the helm now were Greta jaqua, president, Kay Kelly, vice-president, Dee Anna Tell, secretaryg Betty Carol Dunn, treasurer, Marilyn Lucus, parliamentariang and Martha johnson, spon- sor. Our first activity as juniors was a swimming party held at Dr. Raymond Hill's home with Size-burgers and watermellon. During July we welcomed the new Probies with a lawn party. Other activities included cycling, horseback riding, ice skating, a tour through Stuart's Pharmaceutical House in Pasadena, and at- tending Art Linkletter's House Party as his guests. Remember, Edith received a lovely white leather jacket. In October we honored the Seniors of '59 with a candlelight Luau and dip in the surf at the lovely pool and home of Dr. and Mrs. Winston Nethery. In December we had a Christmas party at Greta's home which also proved to be a surprise bridal shower for Donna Whitfield. We concluded our junior year with an all day snow picnic at Snow Valley that included skiing, ice skating and just frolicking in the snow. Many long months! But thereis no regret, just as they said . . . Seniors, you'll get there yet! In February, 1960 we organized for the final time. The Seniors of '60 elected Greta jaqua, president, Betty Carol Dunn, vice-presidentg Kay Kelly, secretary, Marilyn Lucus, treasurer, Elizabeth Malin, parliamentariang Louise Brown, spon- sor. In just a few months all affiliations to other hospitals would be completed. During this last stretch it was sometimes difficult to get together for extra-curricular activities now that we all had separate apartments in the community and were working various shifts. But even so we did go on a rollicking trolly-car party and trips to the beach. Of course, we'll always remember the delightful evening when the faculty honored us with a relishing picnic supper and an evening at the Festival of Arts at Laguna Beach in August. Lastly and perhaps our most treasured memory as a class are the days we spent at Lake Arrowhead just relaxing, hiking and enjoying the inspiring scenery. We returned home and busied ourselves with hard work and final preparations for commencement. We've waited with deep gladness for our Graduation Dayg But now that it has blossomed we can't bear to go away. Good bye, Alma Mater, we'll return as one no more, But our memories you'll keep in an ever growing store.
