A master of the classic orator's pose, Mr. Ned Lewis, speech teacher, illustrates a fine point of the art. : 'f ,ze S . J , e f . k! . , S if-rf Relaxing during rehearsal, Mr. Harry Francisco, drama instructor, mentally reviews the progress of the fall play. 107725 Drama is the interpretation of emotion and thought. Comedy and tragedy are the two main divisions of drama, though the opposite of tragedy is sordidness. Closely related to drama is speech. Glendale High offers courses in public speaking that are helpful to students as- piring to careers in business, law, or teaching, and, of course, drama.

This enthusiastic conference between Miss Martha Arnold, de- partment head, and Donna Magrina is one of many that take place in the art classes. Discussing the merits of dress design as a career, Karen Balson, Miss Suzanne Scott, art instructor, and Jane Nevins come to a favorable conclusion. M Art takes many forms. Among these are sculpture, draw- ing, sketching, painting. Each single art is related to the other. Commercial art also includes the aforementioned aspects of the broad field of art. Various careers are open to art students and professional artists. Advertising, illus- trating, and industrial design are iust three of these fields. Persons trained in art will also find unceasing opportunities in architecture. .-.gs ,V . Huehn. wrt' l l A hush falls over the audience as the orchestra begins the overture, Under the direction of Mr. Eldred lBudl Balzer, woodwind, string, and brass sections have been practicing for months. The Spring Concert is the culmination of their efforts. Mr. Balzer also leads the band and half-time activities at football games. ln the spring the combined vocal groups pre- sent the Choral Festival. For this spectacular more than 250 singers spend long hours per- fecting Words and tone under the direction of Miss Shirley Nute and Mr. John Key, chairman of the Music Department. Co-ordination of music for the different vocal and instrumental groups is achieved by Mr. Eldred lBudl Balzer, Mr. John Key, and Miss Shirley Nute. W: Hold that note!
