O THE GRADUATES we say, CONGRATULATIONS and BON VOYAGE! Three happy years at Glendale High School and the turnstiles are ready again to mark the exit of another group of graduates. The all important question at this time is: What kind of people are these whose faces are now so radiant with anticipation of life's adventure? ln this class are those who just 'got by'. They are only a step ahead of their less fortunate brothers who failed entirely. For them a hard path lies ahead, as poor preparation in youth looks forward to a spare maturity. To such we can only say, Hurry! Opportunity knocks but rarely. ln another, and by far the largest group, are those who are content to remain mediocre. lt is they who describe the C as the gentlemen's grade because it is average They are not much disturbed by the challenges of life, and would prefer to float blissfully with the stream. They are appreciated by many because, by comparison, they are not obnoxious with their superiority. They are appreciated by the superior, too, for they furnish the shoulders upon which the leaders may ride. We would wish that fewer might remain among their number. The last group, like the first, are fewer in number. They are the select men and women who are always willing to go another mile. To them, the suggestions of teachers for self im- provement have been commands to action. They will not be found lacking when competence is required. They are the ones who will become the leaders, and upon them will depend the future of America. To those select young men and women of the Class of l938 who have achieved, whether in academic fields, in the arts, student activities, or athletics, we offer the salute of the school! May their outstanding abilities be exerted to the accomplishment of those high ideals which are the goals of their alma mater-Glendale High. ELON EARL HILDRETH Principal i938
